Gibson's company manufactured several important products, including rocket fuel components essential for U.S. Space Shuttle launches and national defense products. He was inducted into the Nevada Business Hall of Fame. According to his Las Vegas Review-Journal obituary (May 7, 2018): Fred Daniel Gibson Jr., former CEO of Pacific Engineering & Production Company of Nevada, better known as PEPCON, has died. He was 90. The longtime engineer died Saturday in Clark County - one day after the 30th anniversary of the historic PEPCON explosions that shook the Las Vegas Valley on May 4, 1988. Gibson, who was CEO at the time of the blast, retired from the post in June 1997 and served on the company's board of directors until 2013. His father, also named Fred, co-founded PEPCON in 1955. Today the company is part of the American Pacific Corp. It began its operations in Henderson in 1956 and built its first plant in 1958. Gibson joined the company after postgraduation jobs at Titanium Metals Corp. and Western Electrochemical Co., and he was named PEPCON vice president in 1963. "We called him Ted," Dave Thayer, the company's current chief operating officer, told the Las Vegas Review-Journal. "He was a good man to work for and he was a very good teacher and mentor." Gibson was born May 24, 1927, in Golden, Colorado. He arrived in Nevada with his family when he was 2 and graduated from Las Vegas High School. He is perhaps best known for his family's name and the Gibson clan's contributions to Nevada's industrial and engineering history, which was marked by the family's induction into the UNLV Lee Business School's Nevada Business Hall of Fame in 2012. "We've had lots of family members work with us and for us," Gibson said in an online video created to mark the occasion. "It's been a delightful experience for all of us." Gibson contemplated a law career during high school, but World War II intervened. He served in the Army and graduated from a Japanese language school at Yale University. After the war he enrolled as a prelaw student at Colorado College, but after his sophomore year discovered that his interests lay more in math, science and engineering. In September 1949, he transferred to the Mackay School of Mines at the University of Nevada, Reno, where he received his bachelor's degree in metallurgical engineering. By 1970, Gibson held more than 30 patents in the United States and abroad and invented an electrochemical device that Clark County used in its sanitation district plant to control odors and treat effluent. During the 1980s, Gibson served two terms on the Nevada Commission on Economic Development. Gibson also was active with the Nevada Taxpayers Association and local philanthropy. In 1985, he received the Distinguished Nevadan award from the Board of Regents and a NASA Distinguished Public Service Medal in 2002. In March 2004, Desert Research Institute presented Gibson with the President's Medal - the organization's highest nonscientific award. He also was named UNR's alumnus of the year in 2010.". Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Agent Tiki Gibbs, 25 year veteran of The Agency - a super-secret government group that specializes in finding people who do not wish to be found - receives a message in the form of a simple piece of paper in a windstorm. The notecard only says, "I'm Searching For You." Agent Gibbs, as levelheaded and grounded as they come, looked upon the message warily. Maybe it was nothing more than simple human curiosity that got him to make that initial inquiry. Maybe it was the oddity that the message kept changing in his hands, sometimes adding a picture of an island paradise, other times adding ten simple digits - a phone number in Hawaii. But mostly it was the fact that only HE could see the message. No one else, not even his girlfriend, Christiana, could see anything other than a blank piece of paper. Making that phone call started Agent Gibbs off on the biggest manhunt of his career, a search that takes him across the country looking for 96 escapees of the Perception Is Reality Project. Where those escapees are going is not the big question. Where they have come from. IS! Hardcover. Condición: Fine. No Jacket. lxvii, 760 pages : illustrations ; 29 cm OCLC 52073501 This reprint of the first edition of Sweet's Catalog commemorates the 90th anniversary of the Sweet's business."--Foreword ; "In offering to the public, and especially to the architects of the United States, the first edition of Sweet's Indexed Catalogue of Building Construction, the publishers have realized at the very outset the importance of stating clearly, first, what the book is, and secondly, the reasons for commending it to the architectural profession for their use and support. .to explain in a few words the character and purpose of the work, . a embodied in these first successful efforts toward a really scientific standard catalogue and index of building materials and construction. Let the matter be looked at entirely from the point of view of the architect. For a period of a dozen years, every possible method of collecting, sorting, classifying, filing and indexing all the catalogues and circulars of building materials was conscientiously given a fair trial, and after a thorough test, every method was just as conscientiously abandoned. They were abandoned because they did not work well in the specification room. They were not practicable. Everything was tried, arrangements of shelves, bookcases, pasteboard boxes, filing cases, patent binders, filing cabinets, cases of drawers, indexing schemes and " index- rerums. " At first, all the big books were put together in one place and all the little books in another place; and then all the big and little books were mixed up together, and indexed according to subject. Some had four pages, and some had four hundred pages. Barely two were of the same shape or superficies. The little ones would not stand up, and could not be gotten at when laid flat. Another elaborate system was introduced, and a voluminous cross-index started, but the big books contained too much useless matter, and the little books got lost or mislaid or could not be found just when wanted. Then the writer decided, after much time and expense, that the present system of publishing and distributing catalogues, as far as the architect is concerned, might be rightly termed " The Catalogue Delusion, " and that the only solution of the problem must lie in a scientific standard catalogue and index of building materials and construction, gradually developed toward an ideal result by the co-operation of manufacturer and architect. Briefly, then, what is Sweet's Indexed Catalogue of Building Construction? It is a scientific catalogue book system ( a volume or series of volumes) , as easy to refer to as a dictionary, consisting of groups of catalogues from which as much unnecessary matter as possible has been eliminated, carefully indexed and cross- indexed, and sent out gratuitously by the publishers to every architect of good standing. Each catalogue in the work is organically arranged in its parts. It proceeds in a regular order from fact " A " to fact " Z " . Illustrations of a certain class are all grouped and arranged according to some obvious plan. " Literature " and " mere writing " are omitted, as an architect has no time in his office for either."; authors and compilers include Wm. Martin Aiken, Claire Allen, J. M. Baillie, Charles I. Berg, Otto Block, Claude Bragdon, Arnold W. Brunner, George Cary, Henry M. Congdon, James B. Cook, Francis W. Cooper, R. L. Daus, Robt. E. Dexter, A. F. D'oench, Gustav W. Drach, Wm. S.
