A school, with a history of over four hundred years, has hitherto been dismissed in a few uncertain paragraphs. The present volume, in being the work of an outsider, is an exception to the rule; but most people have something better to do than to spend their spare time and money in continuous historical research, and at the time when I turned my attention in this direction there seemed very small likelihood of anyone else bringing the matter to a close.
