Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Good. 1st Edition. 1889, 12mo, 302pp. One droplet-sized stain on front cover, extremities worn, pages browned, primarily at margins, else G. There is an inscription on the front flyleaf, dated at Honolulu, December 18, 1889, and the words Capt. and Mrs. Geo. Luce can be read, but the first two lines are not… entirely legible. The author, Geo. Luce, a trustee of the Anglican mission in Hawaii, and his wife, after an absence of thirty-six years from their home in England, returned for a visit. They traveled across the United States, coming and going, but there is very little about that part of the journey. Luce died in February, 1888, before the publication of the book. So the inscription might be by Mrs. Luce, or it might be a presentation copy from someone whose initials are F. A. L, noting that he/she was a friend of Capt. and Mrs. Geo Luce. Signed by Author(s).

The book offers a unique glimpse of America in the late 19th century through the eyes of an outsider, and explores themes of cultural identity, progress, and the enduring power of memory. By documenting the author's journey both literally and figuratively, this book provides a valuable historical record and a thought-provoking meditation on the nature of home and belonging. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
