Anlass des Symposions war der 400. Jahrestag der Politica Methodice Digesta des Johannes Althusius (1563-1638), die 1603 in Herborn, damals Sitz einer Hohen Schule, zuerst erschienen ist und als eines der ersten wissenschaftlichen Lehrbücher der Politik gilt. Im Rahmen des Symposions wurde eine deutsche Übersetzung der Politica in repräsentativer Auswahl vorgestellt, die ebenfalls bei Duncker & Humblot erschienen ist und es ermöglicht, den Text nun auch ohne Lateinkenntnisse zu erschließen.
