Grimaudet behandelt außerdem die generelle Machtverteilung zwischen Staat und Kirche, viele seiner Schriften enthalten interessante staatstheoretische Ansätze. Damit ist er Vordenker, auf den sich zwei Jahrhunderte später die Aufklärer mit ihrer Forderung der Trennung von sakraler und profaner Macht beziehen sollten. A contemporary of Jean Bodin, he wrote several works on public and civil law, but being suspected of tendencies to reform, he was accused of heresy and forced to retire.
