Añadir al carritoDraft "recapitulation" script for the 1939 film, a shortened version written by MGM screenwriter Bradbury Foote as part of an editing process involving Foote and fellow studio screenwriter Lawrence Stallings. An uncommon and historically significant example of the exhaustive script development process maintained by Selznick International in its brief history. In October of 1938, struggling to adapt Margaret Mitchell's monumental 1000-page novel, producer David O. Selznick sent the latest draft of Sidney Howard's script to Foote and Stallings. Hoping to complete the script before filming commenced, and thus working within a tight time frame, Selznick gave the writers just over a week to come up with edits. Foote's rewrite gave the film a happy ending, closing with Rhett and Scarlett in each others' arms-a suggestion that Selznick hated. Ultimately, in spite of Selznick's wishes, filming began in January of 1939 without a completed script, with numerous daily revisions issued well into production. Blue titled wrappers, with a date, November 8, 1938, in manuscript pencil on the front wrapper, and a credit for Foote. Distribution page present, with receipt intact. 24 leaves, with last page of text numbered 23. Carbon typescript on onionskin stock, rectos only. Pages about Fine, wrapper about Fine, bound with two staples. National Film Registry. Ebert I. Godard, Histoire(s) du cinema.…

Añadir al carritoOriginal 23 page carbon typescript on onionskin paper bound in blue cardstock studio covers. Fine condition. An historic piece showing the struggles David O. Selznick endured trying the create the best screenplay for his classic film. This manuscript written by Bradford Foote compares and points out the differences between the screenplay written by Sidney Howard with a screenplay version written by Foote. The Ransom Center at the University of Texas which holds the archives of David O. Selznick writes ÒIn October 1938, Selznick sent the Sidney Howard script to two top MGM scriptwriters, Lawrence Stallings and Bradbury Foote, for help editing. The men, under confidentiality, had eight days to make their suggestions. FooteÕs editing gave the film a happy ending, destroying one of the novelÕs most emotionally powerful scenes. In FooteÕs rewrite, Rhett does indeed leave, but Mammy thrashes the famous ÒTomorrow is another day!Ó speech, telling Scarlett, ÒNever you mind tomorrow, honey. This here is today! There goes your man!Ó The scene dissolves to a shot of a railroad station. Scarlett corners Rhett in the car of a train, entreating, ÒOh, Rhett! Life is just beginning for us! CanÕt you see it is? WeÕve both been blind, stupid fools! But weÕre still young! We can make up for those wasted years! Oh, RhettÑlet me make them up to you! Please! Please!Ó He kisses her hands, and the scene fades out. Selznick considered this rewrite Òawful.Ó.…
