Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the history of Hurley Priory, founded in the 1080s as a cell of Westminster Abbey, through a detailed study of medieval charters and deeds. These documents shed light on various aspects of the priory's administration, including its lands, finances, legal status, and relations with local communities. The book reveals the extensive lands and tythes granted to the priory by its founder, Geoffrey de Mandeville, and subsequent benefactors, and the complex legal and economic mechanisms through which these were managed. It also examines the priory's relationships with neighboring landowners, including the de Mandeville family, and its role in local society. Through careful analysis of the charters and deeds, the author offers insights into the daily life of the priory, its economic activities, and its contributions to the religious and cultural landscape of medieval England. The book provides a valuable addition to our understanding of monastic life and the role of religious institutions in shaping the political, economic, and social fabric of medieval society.
