Buch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book is the first of two volumes that, together, present for the first time a comprehensive collection of three decades of the theoretical writings of artist and theorist Bracha L Ettinger. Edited and introduced by Griselda Pollock they provide a systematic anthology of Ettinger's path-breaking and influential concept of Matrixial subjectivity-as-encounter and jointness-in-difference, and chart her radical intervention in aesthetics, ethics and theories of subjectivity far beyond classical feminist and current gender/queer theory. This first volume includes the writings in which Ettinger elaborates her original concepts of Matrixial space-time and metramorphosis, fascinance, wit(h)nessing, resonance, transcryptum, com-passion, self-fragilization and resistance, co-emergence and copoiesis transform theories of the subject, Eros, alliance and love, sexual difference, alterity, relationality, trauma and violence. Her critical dialogue with theorists including Levinas, Lacan, Lyotard and Deleuze & Guattari, Butler, Cavarero and Irigaray is evident here.A leading authority on Matrixial theory, Griselda Pollock provides explanatory prefaces to each chapter and a lengthy introduction that situates Ettinger's work in relation to socio-psychoanalytical theory and practice and current social and philosophical debates. Ettinger's interlacing of psychoanalysis, ethics, and aesthetics can be seen here to address some of the deepest challenges of our social, cultural and political existence today.…

Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 2011 Walther Konig paperback edition. Light reading wear, else very good condition. From the cover: Artistic practices are manifold and highly diverse. In recent years, a claim towards research has become meaningful to many practitioners of art. Intellectual Birdhouse gives room to a number of acteurs to unfold their attitudes towards this claim. In this book, 'artistic research' is assumed as being independent of 'discipline', with the potential to occur in all contexts once epistemological expectations have shifted. This approach foregrounds questions concerning the type of models, terms and concepts that elucidate the processes and outcomes of epistemic-artistic practices while recalling theoretical debates steeped in tradition. Artistic research often involves productive and reflective work on and with material, and is frequently paired with testing of forms of representation other than texts that engage in open negotiations with knowledge. For this reason, artistic research may take an unexpected or even controversial course. As a consequence, most of the chapters discuss how borders need to be negotiated as part of the research process. This includes questions bearing on art and science, art and politics, art and history as well as art and philosophy. Many of the authors see themselves as artists, but one of the chief claims of this book is that a position is possible beyond the 'theory' and 'practice' labels. The chapters address this position and the difficulties negotiating it in the context of existing discourses and intellectual frameworks. With contributions by: Gina Badger, Henk Borgdorff, Paul Carter, Bracha L. Ettinger, Sabine Flach, Renee Green, Penelope Haralambidou, Florian Hecker, Tom Holert, Sarat Maharaj, Sonia Matos, Jonathan Miles, Raqs Media Collective, Hans-Jorg Rheinberger, Hannes Rickli, Michael Schwab, Henk Slager, Marcus Steinweg, Hito Steyerl, Jan Svenungsson, Alise Upitis and Francisco Varela. Hardcover. Condición: New. As an artist and psychoanalyst, Bracha L. Ettinger (Israel, France) incorporates both practices in her work in order to develop an innovative approach to applied psychoanalysis, half-way between the artistic and therapeutic practices; but as an artist, her paintings, drawings, notebooks and installations have influenced both the field of contemporary art and the field of art-history and research over the last two decades. In her work on paper, Ettinger imprints marks linked to memory and trauma, exile and history, while reflecting on representation, the gaze and the trace. The exchange of experiences and the desire to express a common and shared unconscious manifest themselves in her drawings and painting through the absence of fixation and a tendency to ambiguity, permutation and that which is compound, flexible and ephemeral. …
