Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book offers a firsthand account of a young Missouri soldier's experiences during the American Civil War, specifically focusing on his involvement with the First Missouri (Confederate) Brigade under the command of General Sterling Price. Set against the backdrop of a nation divided, the narrative delves into the tumultuous events that unfolded in Missouri during the early years of the conflict, from the contentious political climate and the controversial Camp Jackson affair to the subsequent battles and campaigns. The author's personal perspective provides a unique glimpse into the daily lives of Confederate soldiers, their motivations, camaraderie, and the challenges they faced both on and off the battlefield. The book vividly portrays the realities of war, encompassing the excitement and anticipation of young recruits, the hardships of long marches and camp life, and the horrors of combat. Through detailed anecdotes and reflections, the author explores themes of duty, loyalty, and the enduring bonds of friendship forged amidst the chaos of war. His account sheds light on the complexities of the conflict in Missouri, where divided loyalties and guerilla warfare created a particularly brutal and unforgiving environment. Ultimately, this book serves as a testament to the courage, resilience, and sacrifices of the soldiers who fought for the Confederate cause in Missouri, offering valuable insights into a lesser-known aspect of the American Civil War. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format.
