Book is tight, square and relatively sharp-cornered with 519 pp. Free of markings or flaws inside and out, other than very minor scuffing to corners and the inscription from the author to the prior owner, his student: "Inscribed to Oliver Garceau - with a tutor's appreciation of a first rate mind and a lively wit, W.Y. Elliott." Nice color frontis with tissue guard and maps. Laid-in to the front are 3 small articles from the time of publication and a test from Harvard, where prior owner was a student of authors, but ironically instead of using his "first rate mind" he was designing a small 20' ketch on the verso of the test. Uncommon book and even more so inscribed by the author. Elliott was at Harvard for over 40 years and was an adviser to several Presidents, including Roosevelt, and accompanying him to Yalta.
