His interest in history, immigrant history in particular and fascination with the relative isolation of Hecla Island and its original Icelandic settlement, sparked the inspiration for Death at the Point. For the last five years, he has been chair and president of the Manitoba Writers' Guild. He also enjoys composing music in his basement studio and cross-country skiing.
