The Rubáiyát of Omar Khayyám is the title that Edward Fitzgerald gave to his translation of a selection of poems, originally written in Persian and numbering about a thousand, attributed to Omar Khayyám (10481131), a Persian poet, mathematician and astronomer. A ruba'i is a two-line stanza with two parts (or hemistichs) per line, hence the word rubáiyát (derived from the Arabic language root for "four"), meaning "quatrains".Every effort is made to ship all books and other items within 24 hours. On copy right page - states this 1978 edition" is published by Weathervane Books, distributed by Crown Publishers, Inc." and importantly includes an "a" in the alpha line. Includes 23 full color plates by Edmund Dulac originally drawn for the 1907 edition. Each page has a beautiful and elaborate border for the text and pictures. Per write up on DJ , this volume is "faithfully rendered facsimile edition" and was originally designed to be a companion to the Rubaiyat of Omar Khayyan, also illustrated Dulac. White cloth covers are bright, clean and unmarred. Gold embossed lettering of title and author on front cover is very shiny and bright. Gilded letters on spine is also shiny and unmarred. The binding is firm - no loose signatures. Pages are without writing, tears or folds on pages. Over sized- Book size is approximately 8.5" W by11" T. DJ is faded on spine and has a 1.5" triangular chip missing at top front cover. Some edge wear and rubbing. DJ is overall complete and colorful despite defects. This is NOT an Ex-lib nor a remainder. DJ in mylar jacket. This book is nearly 47+years old - rare to find a book meant for children, with a DJ in such excellent condition.
