Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'The Organization of a Rural Tuberculosis Service' provides a detailed exploration of public health administration during the early 20th century. Authored by Stephen A. Douglass, M.D., this work examines the logistical and medical challenges of combating tuberculosis in rural communities. The book offers a comprehensive look at the infrastructure necessary for screening, treatment, and preventive care, highlighting the collaborative efforts between medical professionals and local institutions. As a significant historical document in the field of public health, 'The Organization of a Rural Tuberculosis Service' details the methodologies used to manage a then-prevalent infectious disease. It addresses the importance of systematic data collection, nursing services, and the role of the rural clinic. This work is essential for researchers, historians, and public health practitioners interested in the evolution of healthcare delivery systems and the history of respiratory medicine. Through its focus on structured medical intervention, the book illustrates the development of standardized protocols that shaped modern rural health initiatives. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Añadir al carritoWraps. Condición: Very good. Second Edition. Octavo, 24pp. Stated "second edition" on title page. Original wraps, bound at spine with twine. Light toning to cover, generally clean text. (Sabin 20693) This followed the first edition the same year. Stephen A. Douglas (1813-1861) was a Democratic senator from Illinois, who ran against Lincoln in 1858 for the Senate seat from Illinois. Their eloquent debates, which would be published in 1860 as the Lincoln-Douglas Debates would help launch the presidential candidacy of Lincoln against Douglas in 1860. During his time in the Senate, Douglas advocated for the principle of popular sovereignty, which allowed new western territories to decide for themselves if slavery would be permitted within their borders. In 1850, he advocated for the Compromise of 1850, which aimed to keep an equal number of slave and non-slave holding states. In 1854, he passed the Kansas-Nebraska Act, which repealed the Missouri Compromise of 1820, created the new territories of Kansas and Nebraska, and followed his principle of popular sovereignty, which allowed the new territories to decide for themselves if they wished to hold slaves. It had the opposite effect on the nation, stoking tensions in the north and solidifying the Republican party as the antislavery party. In the election of 1860, the Democratic party split between his candidacy and John C. Breckinridge of Kentucky. As the Civil War broke out, Douglas rallied support for the Union, but he died in 1861. Second edition of Observations on Senator Douglas's Views of Popular Sovereignty, as Expressed in Harpers' Magazine, for September, 1859. (ilustrador).…

Pamphlet has some corner and edge loss, not affecting the text, and soiling and old dampstains. Uneven pages. This speech is one of Douglass's most famous, in support of the recent Dred Scott Decision. Douglass later said that a popular majority should be able to overturn the decision, causing rifts over slavery in his Democratic party. Douglass discusses the issue of slavery and statehood in Kansas and the problem of autonomy of Brigham Young's Utah. He also encourages the purchase of Vancouver Island from Great Britain for the purpose of moving all Pacific Northwest Indians there. ; 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall; 8 pp.…

Añadir al carrito[DOUGLASS, Stephen A.]. Kansas, Utah, and the Dred Scott Decision. Remarks of Hon. Stephen A. Douglass [sic], Delivered in the State House at Springfield, Illinois, on 12th of June, 1857 [caption title]. [n.p., possibly Springfield], [1857]. 8pp. On a single folded sheet. Untrimmed and partially uncut. Moderate staining and toning, else very good. BYRD 2633. COHEN 10083. OCLC 82744422, 871172680. "Douglas was invited by the federal grand jury to address it upon the state of the nation. This speech was the first public expression of his views on the Dred Scott decision and was a year before his debates with Lincoln. In it he accepted the decision and insisted that 'the whole principle of Popular Sovereignty and self-government is sustained and firmly established by the authority of this decision.' The speech was part of the preliminary groundwork for re-election in 1858 and was widely distributed and printed throughout the state in both English- and German-language editions" - Byrd. This speech was also printed the same year in Chicago. Both are rare. Only six copies are listed in OCLC. Byrd lists three issues, each with different collations, and according to Byrd's population counts, this issue is far scarcer than the other two.…
