Paperback. Condición: New. The French city of Limoges was world famous for the production of champlevé enamels during the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance a revival of Limoges enamels took place, but the technique employed was that of painted enamel. Triptychs with a sacred subject, conceived as a painting but shining like jewellery and built with durable materials, became popular. The three works held at the Bargello National Museum in Florence are attributable to Nardon Pénicaud (1470-1542), a primary artist with an active workshop. The three enamel paintings came from the famous collection of Louis Carrand, a Lyon antiquarian, who donated them to the Bargello in the 19th century. Their story is told in Ilaria Ciseri's essay. Paola Venturelli analyses the historical and artistic aspects of the works and places them in the context of contemporary enamel production. The final contributions from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure address the conservation of the three delicate enamels and analyses materials and pigments.

The Florentine author Ilaria Ciseri published the 2003 Werk Il Romanticismo. 1760-1860: La Nascità di una nuova Sensibilità, which has now been presented in German language under the simpler title "Die Kunst der Romantik," 400 pages heavy, printed art paper in format 30 x 30 cm, in a dark canvas cover with golden stamping font. German edition to more than 500 pictures, which slightly overdriven color actually has a "shining panorama of this fascinating artistic epoch" (blurb). The image selection offers the presentation rarely seen works from Italian museums, from Russian or French-owned, but they could hardly be made on quality: with preference for works of late romantic history painters including Francisco Hayez, Francesco Podesti and Giuseppe Sabatelli.
