Añadir al carritoPaperback. Condición: New. The French city of Limoges was world famous for the production of champlevé enamels during the Middle Ages. During the Renaissance a revival of Limoges enamels took place, but the technique employed was that of painted enamel. Triptychs with a sacred subject, conceived as a painting but shining like jewellery and built with durable materials, became popular. The three works held at the Bargello National Museum in Florence are attributable to Nardon Pénicaud (1470-1542), a primary artist with an active workshop. The three enamel paintings came from the famous collection of Louis Carrand, a Lyon antiquarian, who donated them to the Bargello in the 19th century. Their story is told in Ilaria Ciseri's essay. Paola Venturelli analyses the historical and artistic aspects of the works and places them in the context of contemporary enamel production. The final contributions from the Opificio delle Pietre Dure address the conservation of the three delicate enamels and analyses materials and pigments.

With these words Charles Baudelaire, in 1846, summarized the essence of the fascinating cultural, spiritual, and artistic movement that took hold of Europe during the late eighteenth century and had a profound impact on every field of the arts, from music to painting to literature. A phenomenon of revolutionary import, Romanticism ~ so~named for the importance it gave to the emotions ~ spread across the continent of Europe and arrived in the young United States. It was a new concept of art and artists, Rejecting the rigid canons of classicism and the limitations imposed by traditional rules, and in open revolt against rationalism, it saw art as the result of absolute creative freedom and the artist as a supreme ~ even heroic ~ individual with the right to express him~ or herself in a the most personal way, drawing inspiration from imagination and driven by the demands of creativity, This volume, illustrated with more than 450 splendid images, presents the history of Romanticism in a highly original way, offering an enthralling panorama of this all~important period in the history of art. By dividing the vast subject into twenty basic themes the author explores the various "souls" of Romanticism, from the myth of Napoleon to the Gothic revival, from religious images to the allure of the East and exoticism. There are chapters on landscape, dreams and the psyche, the concept of the sublime, along with insights into melodrama, Gothic romances, and the ballet, taking the reader up to the very threshold of the modern age and first signs of realism. This historical and artistic story is illustrated with works by the greatest artists of the period ~ such as Caspar David Friedrich, Ingres, Delacroix, Gericoult, Fuseli, Bloke, and Turner in Europe; and John Trumbull, Thomas Cole, and George Catlin in America ~ along with works by minor artists who made important contributions. The volume includes a chronological table to guide the reader through one of the most turbulent and dramatic periods of history; brief biographies of the artists; a bibliography; and an index. Together these resources make this exceptionally comprehensive volume on essential introduction to one of the most fascinating periods in art history, a period that still influences the way we look at art and life.

Añadir al carritoHardcover. Condición: Fine. The Florentine author Ilaria Ciseri published the 2003 Werk Il Romanticismo. 1760-1860: La Nascità di una nuova Sensibilità, which has now been presented in German language under the simpler title "Die Kunst der Romantik," 400 pages heavy, printed art paper in format 30 x 30 cm, in a dark canvas cover with golden stamping font. German edition to more than 500 pictures, which slightly overdriven color actually has a "shining panorama of this fascinating artistic epoch" (blurb). The image selection offers the presentation rarely seen works from Italian museums, from Russian or French-owned, but they could hardly be made on quality: with preference for works of late romantic history painters including Francisco Hayez, Francesco Podesti and Giuseppe Sabatelli. The early Romantics presented include Pierre Antoine and Jacques Cathelineau and works from the Musée Ancien Evêché in Evreux and Musée d'Orsay. Size: 11¾" - 12½". book.
