Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Indications of Source for the Accounts of the Last Supper as Given by the Synoptists and by St. Paul' is a rigorous scholarly examination of the textual origins and theological intersections regarding one of the most significant events in the New Testament. Charles Porter Coffin meticulously explores the narrative structures and linguistic cues within the Synoptic Gospels-Matthew, Mark, and Luke-alongside the testimonial evidence provided by St. Paul in his epistles. By analyzing the source indications, Coffin seeks to identify the shared oral or written traditions that informed these diverse yet overlapping accounts of the institution of the Eucharist. This work serves as an essential resource for students of biblical criticism, theology, and historical liturgy. It delves into the nuances of source theory, questioning how early Christian communities preserved and interpreted the memory of the Last Supper. The study provides a clear, methodical approach to understanding the development of early Christian scripture and the relationship between the apostolic tradition and the written Gospel record. Readers interested in the historical-critical method and the foundations of Christian practice will find this analysis both insightful and authoritative. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. Añadir al carritoPamphlet. 29 p.; 22.5 cm. Gives synopsis of Alexandrine liturgy (following Swainson, 1884) with New Testament sources, p. 25-27. `It seemsclear that this Liturgy of Alexandria represents a use or practice of the church at the time and place, whatever these were, of its committal to writing. The earliest tradition of what had occurred and had been said around a table in an upper chamber on a certain passover night, experiences adaptation to local condition in a heathen land, to meet them and overcome them on their own ground. From that adaptation evolves the Christian ecclesiastical rite in its most primitive form, the sacrament of the eucharist, wholly unknown tothe tradition that was to be or perhaps already had been transcribed in the Aramaic couplet. And to this adaptive process there was thereupon added the process of assimilation, the confla- tion of the [Petrine] tradition with its Pauline variant, now reflected in the accounts of Mk and Mt and even more distinctly reflected in the account of Lk in its edited form. These are the processes that continued to operate even after the synoptic gospels were compiled, even down to the era of the richly elaborate ritual displayed inthe Alexandria andthe other great Greek liturgies. .even prior to the day when Mk penned his account, had ecclesias tical usage pieced together parts of Aramaic tradition with partsof Pauline teaching; so still earlier, had the apostle to the gentiles transmuted an account of the keeping of an ancient Hebrew festal rite into a doctrine of what an ancient Greek festal rite ought to, and might, become; so, too, had the apostle attributed tothe Lord himself conceptions non-Jewish but wholly Greek, and put into His mouth words that he avers he had received from Him.' Good, stapled, in lt. edgeworn tan wrapper. Tear in upper spine.…
