The author provides detailed descriptions of experimental methods, emphasizing the importance of understanding apparatus and its use. The book begins with a discussion of the treatment of observations and determination of error, providing a strong foundation for accurate experimentation. The author then covers a wide range of topics in dynamics and general physics, including density, specific gravity, friction, and the laws of motion. The book also delves into concepts such as surface tension, elasticity, and the behavior of gases and liquids. Each topic is thoroughly explored through a combination of theoretical explanations and practical experiments, ensuring a deep understanding of the underlying principles. By presenting a thorough treatment of both the theoretical and experimental aspects of Practical Physics, this book empowers students to develop their experimental skills and gain a deeper appreciation of the subject. It is an invaluable resource for anyone seeking to enhance their knowledge and understanding of practical physics. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. This is the full issue for December, extracted from a larger bound volume. [++] This paper investigates the phenomena associated with the emission of electrons when materials are exposed to X-rays. [++] "Charles Glover Barkla (7 June 1877 23 October 1944) was an English physicist who received the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1917 for his discovery of characteristic X-rays. Barkla made significant progress in developing and refining the laws of X-ray scattering, X-ray spectroscopy, the principles governing the transmission of X-rays through matter, and especially the principles of the excitation of secondary X-rays. For his discovery of the characteristic X-rays of elements, Barkla was awarded the Nobel Prize in Physics in 1917. He was also awarded the Hughes Medal of the British Royal Society that same year.".

"Professor Charles Glover Barkla was a very distinguished physicist who received the Nobel prize in physics in 1917 for his pioneering discovery of the characteristic X-radiation of the elements. This was one of the most important developments in the determination of the structure of atoms, later confirmed by X-ray spectroscopy. Barkla relied on the assistance of the most able of his research students in his work, and Janette Dunlop (1891-1971) was one of these, demonstrated in her co-authorship of an article with Barkla published in 1916."--Minerva Scientifica website ("Janette Dunlop").
