Highlights include: A presentation copy of a rare survival of an authoritative pamphlet on the history of the Neolithic henge monument at Avebury, Wiltshire; including theories as to the prehistoric use of the site and notes on the survey undertaken by antiquarians John Aubrey and William Stukeley in the seventeenth-century. A succinct monograph on the medieval manor house of Lytes Cary, Somerset, with biographical notices on the scholarly residents of the estate, including botanist and antiquary Henry Lyte (1529?-1607), translator of the Cruydeboeck, or herbal of Rembert Dodoens (Antwerp, 1554). The first edition of a transcription of the municipal records of Shaftesbury by Dorset clergyman and antiquary Charles Herbert Mayo (1845-1929), author of the Bibliotheca Dorsetiensis (1885), the standard antiquarian bibliography of the county. An apparently unrecorded offprint of an article by sometime secretary of the Somerset Archaeological Society, James Hurly Pring (1815-1889) on the etymology of the place- name 'Hampton', first published in the Antiquarian Magazine and Bibliographer (Vol. III, March, 1883).

This volume represents a nexus of scholarship and political power in 19th-century New York. George van Sandvoord & David L. Seymour: Van Sandvoord was a preeminent scholar-jurist and author of the definitive treatise on the Field Code. His partner, Seymour, was a formidable political figure, serving as Rensselaer County D.A. and a member of the U.S. House of Representatives. Anson Bingham & Andrew J. Colvin: Bingham was a titan of real property law and a primary advocate for the 1860 Married Women's Property Act. His partner, Colvin, served as Albany's Corporation Counsel and State Senator; he is perhaps best remembered as the visionary behind the New York Forest Preserve. A Treatise on Rents is more than a legal text; it is a direct artifact of the Anti-Rent War (1839-1846). This tenant uprising against the "patroonship" system of the Van Rensselaers forced a total reckoning of New York's land-tenure laws. The work captures the legal environment that birthed the 1846 State Constitution, which finally abolished long-term feudal leases and dismantled the last vestiges of Dutch manorial privilege in the Hudson Valley. This beautifully drawn map on a Natural Scale of 1:6,120 shows an important part of…the coast of the Aden Peninsula inland as far as Gold Mohur Valley (SE corner), with relief, and several key locations clearly laid out. These include Government House, the Port Trust, Signal Station, Police Commissioner, Sheba Camp, Cunningham Market, Police Lines, Steamer Point, named wharves, factories, yards, shipping line offices and other installations, gardens, churches, cemeteries, named hills, etc down to the level of the Notice Board outside of Sheba Camp. Captions for the Harbour itself demarcate prohibited anchorages and anchorage for country craft, varying depths of dredging the Inner Harbour done in 1945, etc.
