Soft cover. Condición: Very Good. 3rd Edition. This Is A 1970's Translation of a 1930's French language work about Peace River homesteaders. described by E.K. Brown of the Winnipeg Free Press as "the finest novel of the Canadian West . . . a literary work in which the materials of the frontier have been wrought into designs of lasting beauty. ." The translator, who has signed on the title page, describes a great deal of care and consultation on his part in order to do justice to the work. This is a slightly yellowed and at this point unread copy with some edge wear. I say 'unread at this point" because, although this seems to be a pretty obscure piece of Canadiana, the reviewer's superlatives and translator's remarks are too tempting for me to resist. Signed by Translator.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'This poignant novel, originally published in French in 1935, is a lyrical evocation of the beauty, the harshness, and the tragedy of pioneering life. Based on the author's own experience of homesteading in northern Alberta at the beginning of the twentieth century, the novel tells the story of a young couple from France, who come to the West filled with naive optimism and romantic hope. Like Adam and Eve they end up being driven from their garden of paradise into a world of death and defeat.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Nipsya' is a profound and evocative novel set in the vast landscapes of the Canadian Northwest during the late nineteenth century. The story follows the life of the eponymous protagonist, a young Cree woman who finds herself at a cultural and spiritual crossroads. As the traditional way of life for the Indigenous and Métis communities is increasingly pressured by the arrival of white settlers and the spread of Christianity, Nipsya must navigate the complex tensions between her ancestral heritage and the shifting world around her.Written with deep sensitivity to the natural environment and the interior life of its characters, the work explores themes of identity, faith, and resilience. Against the backdrop of the encroaching modern era and the historical unrest of the North-West Resistance, Georges Bugnet crafts a poignant narrative that captures the beauty and tragedy of a culture in transition.'Nipsya' remains a significant contribution to Canadian literature, offering readers a rare and empathetic glimpse into the struggles and spiritual depth of the people of the plains. This literary work is celebrated for its lyrical prose and its respectful, nuanced portrayal of Indigenous perspectives during a pivotal moment in history. This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it.
