Añadir al carritoNo Binding. Condición: New. Set of eight postcard from the serie When I open my Eyes Wout Berger: "I have been a photographer for over 35 years. I have lived on the IJsselmeer for over 35 years. When I open my eyes in the morning, the first thing I see is the IJsselmeer. Sometimes I take a photo of the lake, but really seeing it is different. It was only when a friend said to me, "You live in your subject," that the penny dropped. I set up a tripod in a fixed spot in front of the bedroom window and started looking. I ended up with sixty photos in total. Together, those photos are my IJsselmeer. No one photo is more beautiful than another. If you look at photos that way, you get caught up in aesthetics. I don't want aesthetics. I want to photograph wind, light. Elements of which we only know the manifestations. You don't see the wind, you see a wave. You don't see light, you see the cloud that catches the light. And yet I want to capture wind and light. By constantly looking at the same subject at the same coordinates. The differences between the shots may be small. There may be a month's difference between two photos that appear almost identical. Meanwhile, the subject remains the same. At least, that's what you think. Unnoticed, the subject begins to change. At first it was the lake, the horizon, the sun, the clouds, the wave, but unnoticed, the subject becomes the differences between the photos. The transitions. In them, I hope to approach the untouchable. Hopeless, of course. But the attempt.

When I open my eyes in the morning, the first thing I see is the IJsselmeer. Sometimes I take pictures of the sea, actually seeing it means something different. Until one day a friend said to me: "You live in your own subject", then the penny dropped. I set a tripod in front of the bedroom window and began to look. At the beginning you are grateful for every sailboat that comes into the picture. Every intense discoloration of the sky: a photo. But very quickly you begin to leave out any distraction from the picture. Anyone who is open to this topic will sooner or later do so. I no longer photograph sailboats, nor birds or people. I photograph small waves, fog, rain and clouds. These, too, can be distracting. But they almost always appear shapeless, transparent, wet. They are practically colorless themselves, but they take on the color of the light that hits them and reflect it. In total there are sixty photos, they form the IJsselmeer. None of the photos is more beautiful than another. When you look at photos in this way, you lose yourself in pure aesthetics. I am not looking for the aesthetics. I would like to photograph the wind or light elements that we can only perceive indirectly. (Wout Berger, excerpt from the artist's statement in the book) " . cm 24x30,5; pp. 130; 64 COL; paperback. Book condition: New (Minimal toning; else fine; Includes original signed print.) Binding: Perfect Language: Dutch, English Edition: First edition Publishing place: Amsterdam Publishing Year: 1992 Description: In 1986, commissioned by the city of Amsterdam, Berger photographed the transitional area between the city and countryside. In this peripheral region he stumbled across an area severely contaminated by chemical waste. He became fascinated by this landscape, where beautiful orchids bloomed. In this wasteland he recognised the opposition between form and content. This led to his large-scale project, "Giflandschap" (Poisoned landscape). Between 1988 and 1990 he visited 1200 chemical waste dumps in the Netherlands, recording 170 of them. Most of these photographs look like idyllic landscapes â" until you realise that carcinogenic materials are to be found under these innocent looking sites. They are landscapes of extremities. Minimal toning; else fine; Includes original signed print. 800.000000.
