Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. The Space to Rise is more than a self-help book - it's a human guidebook for navigating the emotional terrain of modern life. With deep compassion and grounded insight, readers are invited to explore the hidden emotional battles we all carry: the unspoken grief, the everyday overwhelm, the cultural expectations to "keep it together," and the quiet longing for peace and authenticity. This book doesn't offer quick fixes or hollow positivity. Instead, it creates space - the kind Viktor Frankl described - between stimulus and response, where our greatest power lies. Within these pages, you'll discover how to recognize and name emotional weight, interrupt reactive cycles, build resilient habits, and cultivate connection in the face of disconnection. You'll learn that real strength isn't found in silence or stoicism, but in honest reflection, intentional response, and courageous presence. Each section unpacks a theme - from the hidden cost of emotional suppression to the legacy we leave through our daily choices. Through relatable stories, practical tools, and powerful reflection questions, The Space to Rise helps readers of all backgrounds confront the pressures of life not with fear, but with clarity and agency. Whether you're a parent, teacher, healthcare worker, student, leader, or someone quietly holding it all together, this book speaks directly to you. It's a gentle revolution - one that redefines resilience, reclaims emotional health, and reminds us: We are not broken by what happens to us.We are shaped by how we rise from it. Includes Prelude, Author's Note, Notes, and Index. Chapters cover A Thousand Grains of Sand; Parlor Maid; The Recruitment; Double Game; Destroy After Reading; "Holy Shit, Mr. Grove!"; Riding the Tiger: China and the Neutron Bomb; The Walk-in; Kindred Spirit: Wen Ho Lee; Sego Palm; Trouble in Paradise; Ethereal Throne: The Spy Who Never Was; Storm Clouds; The Counterspy; Royal Tourist; Richard Nixon and the Hong Kong Hostess; Anubis; Endgame; Eagle Claw; Red Flower; The Cyberspies; and An Afterword. For decades, while the United States obsessed over Soviet spies, China quietly penetrated the highest levels of government--indeed, all along, China arguably has been America's most formidable spy foe. In this book, David Wise tells the full story of China's many victories and defeats in its U.S. spy wars. David Wise (May 10, 1930 - October 8, 2018) was an American journalist and author who worked for the New York Herald-Tribune in the 1950s and 1960s, and published a series of non-fiction books on espionage and US politics as well as several spy novels. His book The Politics of Lying: Government Deception, Secrecy, and Power (1973) won the George Polk Award (Book category, 1973), and the George Orwell Award (1975). In 1951, Wise joined the New York Herald-Tribune and became the paper's White House correspondent in 1960. He was chief of the paper's Washington, D.C. bureau from 1963 to 1966. He was a commentator on intelligence issues for CNN for six years. For decades, while America obsessed over Soviet spies, China quietly penetrated the highest levels of government. Now, for the first time, based on numerous interviews with key insiders at the FBI and CIA as well as with Chinese agents and people close to them, David Wise tells the full story of China's many victories and defeats in its American spy wars. Two key cases interweave throughout: Katrina Leung, code-named Parlor Maid, worked for the FBI for years, even after she became a secret double agent for China, aided by love affairs with both of her FBI handlers. Here, too, is the inside story of the case, code-named Tiger Trap, of a key Chinese-American scientist suspected of stealing nuclear weapons secrets. These two cases led to many others, involving famous names from Wen Ho Lee to Richard Nixon, stunning national security leaks, and sophisticated cyberspying. The story takes us up to the present, with a West Coast spy ring whose members were sentenced in 2010. Patrick Barry (illustration), and Jon Wise (Author (ilustrador).…

Copy belonging to secretary Carol Wynn-Jones, with her name in manuscript ink on the title page, and her annotations throughout, noting revisions and deletions. Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. Do you need quirky questions to start great conversations when you're on a date, or having a family discussion? Do you ever wonder about things like if animals can be psychotic, or if some ants are lazier than others, or why can't we use our own poop for fertilizer instead of horse manure? Or what about wondering if too much water, or coffee, or chocolate can actually kill you? This book contains 42 wacky questions covering science, trivia, pop culture, and health/wellness, with answers provided with a good dose of humour (humor, if you're American). It's a great jumping-off point for different and unconventional topics to talk about. Plus, I like the idea of making money if you buy the book, instead of trying to find the answers by yourself on the internet. Not as easy as it looks, so enjoy the book, and have some wonderful conversations! This item is printed on demand. Shipping may be from our UK warehouse or from our Australian or US warehouses, depending on stock availability.…
