Aquamarine cloth rubbed; faint staining at boards' fore-edge margins; spine lightly sunned; silver stamping to spine and front board remains bright. Text block edges toned. Light foxing/toning to endpapers; author's seven-line ink inscription which is partially illegible but mostly reads as "To G.O. McGinnis, | with the compliments | of the Author and the Publishers, | and with the hope that [?] there may be | Bantings and [?] in the Class of '54, | Seale Harris | December 16, 1950" upon the front free endpaper; newspaper clippings and author's unsigned Merry Christmas card laid-in between half-title verso and frontis recto; light stains at margins of frontispiece and other b/w plates; interior leaves are otherwise clean. Some mustiness to book from prolonged storage. Binding is firm. Inscribee is Anniston, Alabama physician Dr. Gaston Owen McGinnis (1928-2015) who graduated from the Medical College of Alabama in Birmingham (now UAB) in 1954. Renowned Alabama medical researcher Dr. Seale Harris (1870-1957) started studying diabetes and its treatment in the 1920s while involved in the Birmingham, Alabama medical community and serving on the faculty at the city's Medical College of Alabama.

Aquamarine cloth; silver stamping to spine and front board remains bright; some bumping/scuffing to spine ends and board corners. Light toning/foxing to text block edges and endpapers. Author's five-line ink inscription "To Mr & Mrs C.R. Stark | and Bettie Stark, | with highest esteem, | Seale Harris | April 15, 1947" upon the front free endpaper; b/w plate leaf between pages 116-117 previously popped from binding but now tipped back in with slight wear at its fore-edge evidencing its past circumstance. Laid-in between pages 138-139 are two offprints of Seale Harris articles "Banting: Benefactor of Mankind" and "The Food Factor in Winning the War;" Harris pamphlet "Osler's Philosophy" laid-in between pages 192-193; slight foxing/toning occurring to pages opposite plates but otherwise interior leaves are mostly clean. Binding is firm. Co-inscribee Christopher Randolph Stark (1880-1971) was a professor of mathematics at Mississippi State University for fifty-five years. Renowned Alabama medical researcher Dr. Seale Harris (1870-1957) started studying diabetes and its treatment in the 1920s while involved in the Birmingham, Alabama medical community and serving on the faculty at the city's Medical College of Alabama.
