Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book explores the multifaceted nature of human existence, delving into the depths of our emotions and the complexities of our relationships. Written in prose that is both lyrical and incisive, the author's words have the power to resonate with readers of all walks of life, inviting them into a realm of self-discovery. Through a blend of philosophical and introspective essays, the book challenges readers to examine the fabric of their own lives, to understand the motivations behind their actions, and to seek fulfillment and connection in an increasingly fragmented and isolating world. The author's exploration of the human condition is a timeless one, continuing a dialogue that has been central to literature throughout history. This book is a testament to the enduring power of words, and a reminder that our humanity is both our greatest strength and our most profound challenge. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…

It was in the year of grace 1613, that I, Magdalene Bennet, hastening home from early matins in the Cathedral of Salisbury, heard my father's voice calling me to stop till he had come up with me. ***My father was the grandnephew of the precentor of that name whose monument always made me shudder. Why should his granduncle be represented as a mere skeleton on an altar-tomb? For, indeed, the story of his forty days' fast is but a tradition, and my father says that, although he believes that the precentor did practice much holy abstinence, he was never reduced to the skin and bone which the figure presents to the passer-by---' (Quote from the first paragraphs of Chapter I, My New Home, The Recollections of Magdalene Wydville). ***Emma Marshall (1830¿1899) was an English children's author who wrote more than two hundred novels. Her first story, Happy Days at Fernbank, was published in 1861. Between that date and her death, she wrote over two hundred stories. This enormous production was stimulated by heavy losses in 1878, when the failure of the West of England bank not only swept away her husband's income and position, but involved him as a shareholder in certain liabilities. These losses Mrs. Marshall cleared off with indefatigable courage. ***Twelve thousandth of the true first edition, complete with six black and white full-page illustrations, in the original gilt decorated boards, hard to find in collectable condition. ***Of interest to collectors of nineteenth century literature and Victorian women's literature. ***For all our books, postage is charged at cost, allowing for packaging: any shipping rates indicated on ABE are an average only: we will reduce the P & P charge where appropriate - please contact us for postal rates for heavier books and sets etc.…
