Lance Jeffers (1919Ð1985) whose work was known for it exploration of the African American experience went on to publish many volumes of poetry; Julia Fields, who was championed by Langston Hughes also published several influential collections as well as an award-winning childrenÕs book; William J. Harris was both a prolific poet and leading scholar on Amiri Baraka. Each section is preceded by a brief biographical note on the poet.
