Hardcover. Condición: Good. Estado de la sobrecubierta: Good. 1st Edition. Offering this signed copy of "Scheherazade Cooks!" by Lebanese-American storyteller and performer Wadeeha Atiyeh. Illustrations by renowned American graphic designer John Acorn. Great Neck, NY: Channel Press, 1960, 1st edition. Cloth over decorated paper hardcover with original dust jacket, pp.189. Signed and inscribed on the ffep: "Many Salaama, Wadeeha Atiyeh," followed by an inscription by someone else: "-and from me, too! Bill Harris 12/29/61." This book blends traditional Middle Eastern recipes with whimsical Arabian Nights folklore. Inspired the the tale of Scheherazade, the woman who, through her cooking, kept her king-husband from beheading her in the morning (as he was prone to do with all the women he married and bedded). Overall condition is Good. Binding is square and secure. Dust jacket is rough but fully intact with fading to the spine, chipped edges and corners, and vintage tape reinforcement applied to the underside of the dust jacket. The book itself is in Very Good shape, with bumped corners and faded edges, spine and boards remaining clean and bright. While endpapers are moderately age toned, text pages are less so - they are brighter, clean and unmarked. A nice autographed copy! [C2]. John Acorn (ilustrador). Signed by Author(s).…

Paperback. Condición: new. Paperback. This is Scheherazade . . . who knew perhaps better than any woman in history how to enchant a man. Would you care to share her secrets? We speak now not of her exciting tales, nor of her beauty . . . but of her way of working magic with grape leaves and lamb, with many-hued rices and crisp salad greens. And of her power to transform the lowly lentil, eggplant or cucumber into creations of exotic splendor. If you are lavish in your dreams but limited in gold-then the wizard's economy of Scheherazade's cooking will delight you. If you yearn to cook banquets but have only moments to spare-then the Aladdin's Lamp speed of her recipes will be a boon. If you love to search in the bazaars for the rarest of spices, but frequent only an A&P-then be content, for your supermarket is larder enough.Wadeeha Atiyeh (1903-1973) was born near Bethlehem, where she learned the songs, dances, and dishes of the Near East. Journeying to New York, she learned to translate treasured recipes into terms of an apartment-sized kitchen, the neighborhood supermarket, and the crowded schedule of a successful writer and lecturer. Ms. Atiyeh delighted audiences across the country with her recreation of the Near Eastern past.Scheherazade Cooks! was published in 1960. Scheherazade shares her secrets in Near Eastern cookery, from kebabs to rice dishes, leg of lamb and flat breads to date cookies and baklava. This item is printed on demand.
