Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'The Last Victorians' is a compelling collection of biographical sketches and personal reminiscences that captures the essence of the late nineteenth and early twentieth-century British political landscape. Written by Arthur Anthony Baumann, a contemporary observer and politician, the work offers insightful and often candid portraits of the towering figures who defined the Victorian age. From the strategic brilliance of Benjamin Disraeli and the stoic leadership of Lord Salisbury to the dynamic careers of Lord Randolph Churchill and H.H. Asquith, Baumann provides a unique insider's perspective on the personalities and policies that shaped the British Empire. Beyond mere biography, 'The Last Victorians' serves as a bridge between two eras, reflecting on the transition from the stability of the Victorian consensus to the upheaval of the early twentieth century. Baumann's sharp wit and direct style bring these historical figures to life, detailing their strengths, flaws, and the social milieu in which they moved. This collection is an essential resource for those interested in British history, political science, and the art of the biographical essay, offering a rich tapestry of a bygone era through the eyes of one who lived through it.This work has been selected by scholars as being culturally important, and is part of the knowledge base of civilization as we know it. This book delves into the lives and political careers of four significant figures of the Victorian era: Lord Goschen, Speaker Peel, Lord Randolph Churchill, and Mr. Balfour. Through personal accounts and historical analysis, the book explores themes of leadership, integrity, ambition, and the changing nature of political power. English author (1856-1936). 2 pages, 8vo. In good condition. As Shorter has sent his letter to Baumann's home instead of to 'the office of the paper' it will be too late to insert it that week, 'as the paper was practically made up when I left this afternoon'. There are three letters dealing with Shorter's first letter in that week's issue. As Shorter may want to reply to them he is returning the letter, 'which otherwise will be published next week'. 'A letter should reach the office (10 King St. Covent Garden) not later than noon on Wednesday.' Signed 'Arthur A. Baumann'.…
