Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: Fine. First Edition. Sterling condition softcover copy, with unfurled tips, tight binding, and clean internals, showing only very slight shelf- and edge-wear. Contributions to this fine survey by Duyne, Petrus C. Van, Antonopoulos, Georgios A., Harvey, Jackie, Maljevic, Almir, Tom Vander Beken and Klaus von Lampe, among many others. From the publisher's blurb, "Europe is not a quiet province, certainly not in terms of the prevalence of cross-border crime and corruption. As a matter of fact, there is constant pressure on the integrity of its institutions, whether it concerns the Member States of the European Union or the countries outside this 'family,' but applying for this coveted membership. This pressure does not only come from the 'outside' - within the EU, there are also continuous criminal inroads being made on its integrity. This is not a new phenomenon. However, the intensification of cross-border mobility, as well as recent complex legislation concerning criminal liability - also cross-border, e.g. for corruption - have changed the landscape and widened the risks of such criminal inroads. From trading across the Finnish-Russian border to new candidate countries in Southeast Europe, there are new threats looming. The Balkan countries, standing on the threshold of Europe, are still rife with corruption. Within the EU, there are serious doubts about the solidity and efficiency of the institutions which are supposed to counter the threat of organized crime, corruption, or other menaces against the integrity of the financial and economic system and its other interests. In this tenth volume of the Cross-border Crime Colloquium series, these questions have been addressed by 24 expert European scholars. The book provides a number of well-reasoned answers while making the reader aware how many questions still have to be addressed in this field." Volume contains scholarly apparatus in the form of, e.g., notes, index, and bibliography. iv, 1-391 pp.Member, I.O.B.A., C.B.A., and adherent to the highest ethical standards. Additional postage may be required for oversize or especially heavy volumes, and for sets. …

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - The extension of criminalisation to include the early preparatory stages of the commission of criminal offences represents one of the most debatable issues in modern criminal law. In response to some of the most complex forms of crime usually committed by criminal collectives (such as terrorism, organised crime, or economic crime), different legal systems have developed diverse legal models to address the problem. All in all there are two main models. Countries of the continental criminal law tradition usually rely on the 'participation in a criminal organisation/association' model, whereas countries of the common law tradition utilise the 'conspiracy' model. These models, although having similar functions (to criminalise the early preparatory stages of the commission of criminal offences), are very different in their constitutive elements. This book, for the very first time, explains the differences between the two types of models and points out the process of transfer of their elements from traditional models (Germany and England and Wales) to the international models (UN and EU), and furthermore to transitional models (Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, and Serbia). The author is of the opinion that the differences between the two types of models are such that they cannot be seen as viable alternatives in criminal law, as suggested by the international models. He therefore suggests that the fight against criminal collectives requires cumulative criminalisation using both models in order to be effective.; The extension of criminalisation to include the early preparatory stages of the commission of criminal offences represents one of the most debatable issues in modern criminal law. Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Marianne Wade and Almir Maljevi Although the worries about terrorism paled in comparison to the economic crisis as a topic during the last US election, one can find plenty of grounds to assume that they remain issue number one in the minds of politicians in Europe. As the German houses of Parliament prepare to call in the mediation committee in the discussion of legislation which would provide the Federal Police - thus far mandated purely with the post-facto investigation of crime - with powers to act to prevent acts of terrorism, Spain's struggle with ETA and the British Government licks its wounds after a resounding defeat of its latest anti-terrorist proposals by the House of Lords, one cannot but wonder whether post 9/11, the Europeans are not even more concerned with terrorism than their US counterparts. A look at media reports, legislative and judicial activities in either Britain or Germany clearly underlines that those two countries are deeply embroiled in anti-terrorist activity. Can it be that Europe is embroiled in the 'War on Terror'; constantly providing for new arms in this conflict Or is it a refusal to participate in the 'War on Terror' that fuels a constant need for Parliaments to grapple with the subject; begrudgingly conceding one increasingly draconian measure after the other The question as to where Europe stands in the 'War on Terror' is a fascinating one, but one, which is difficult to answer.…
