Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Seminar paper from the year 2021 in the subject Gender Studies, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: This paper deals with womanhood in Tiv literary genres. It reinterprets gender roles in an African society. The Tiv of Middle-Belt Nigeria are a unique ethnic nationality whose feminine gender is regarded as the heart-beat of the householder, the measure of all things for the husband and the epicenter of the community. Contrary to the conclusion of the African Neo-cultural positivists, the roles Tiv traditional social system assigns to the feminine gender noble roles that elevate than demean her status as a woman. She is neither marginalized nor oppressed and exploited in social, political, economic and religious spheres. Gender discrimination is sine qua non in traditional society though, it is benevolent.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, grade: A, , language: English, abstract: This paper advances a scan of interfaith concept as an enduring harmony among the divergent ethnic groups in Nigeria. In doing this, the paper takes cognizance the problem of ethnic agitations and conflicts in Nigeria, the causes of ethnic and religious crisis, an understanding of interfaith concept and its actors, and advances arguments for the fact that the inadequacies of interfaith concept notwithstanding, it is an enduring philosophy that can be activated by Nigeria for the enhancement of stable, secured and peaceful relations among the diverse ethnic nationalities. This paper advances a philosophy of ethnic and religious tolerance in view of the fact that despite the diversity in tribes and faith, we share the same humanity and that it is only on the basis of this tolerance and the mutual respect for one another's faith that the peace and unity that is both necessary and imperative for national development and nation building can be attained. The history of ethnicity and ethnic conflicts in Nigeria are also traced back to the colonial transgressions that forced the ethnic groups of the northern and southern provinces to become an entity called Nigeria in 1914. This generated hatred and conflict among different ethnic groups. The task of addressing this seed of conflict planted by the British has been a complex one. These conflicts, as it were and as it is, possessed within themselves the tendency of hampering the peace and collective existence of Nigeria if not checked and curtail. This notwithstanding, a stable, secured, and peaceful relations among the diverse and heterogeneous ethnic groups in Nigeria for sustainable development is timely and imperative. In such a time, in the history of the nation as this, when the nation is confronted and affronted with numerous challenges of national development that have to a large extent threatened our collective existence, the need to de-emphasis those things the divides us and to emphasize those things that units becomes more glaring and crystal clear. This thinking is based on the fact that without a peaceful relation between the diverse ethnic groups in Nigeria, there can be no secured and stable Nigeria and without a stable and secured Nigeria, the much-needed development and the change that have been clamoured for by Nigerians will amount to a mirage.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Politics - Region: Africa, , language: English, abstract: This assignment is supposed to provide a portrait of Mandelas leadership and to break down leadership lessons for Africa. Good leadership and governance are key to sustainable human institutions. In Africa, Nelson Mandela stood out as an African icon and an international leader amidst the challenges of the south African environment. The disconnection between the rulers and the ruled suggests that African nations can develop only when the leadership question is rightly settled. Using the African democratic average, Bewaji draws the examples from Tanzania and Libya, and South Africa may be added to make a point. While acknowledging the giant strides of these and a few other African countries, the recent profound changes in North Africa and the fragmented political space in Libya and Egypt in particular, it is not far from the truth to say that Africa countries are surely governed less by a people oriented philosophy of development. In many African states, the democratic culture of inclusive participation, constitutionalism, the rule of law, human rights and accountability; the trampoline of democratic consolidation quickly became cumbersome with tyranny of the minority becoming the order of the day. The argued thesis here is that, sustainable democracy is a factor of how well the leadership transits from knowledge to wisdom. Tolerance, widespread participation, political consensus are necessary conditions for democratic consolidation though, they do not in themselves consolidate a democracy if and when there is no responsible and quality leadership which itself results from self-knowledge. The logic of development can only be expressed through the creative application of wisdom that is anchored on the aims of governance.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Academic Paper from the year 2021 in the subject Politics - Political Theory and the History of Ideas Journal, grade: N/A, , language: English, abstract: The paper argues that, there is a disconnection between the rulers and the ruled, and that the African nations can truly develop only when the leadership question is rightly settled. Drawing lessons from the Madiba Mandela conundrum, we argue the thesis that, our long walk to democratic consolidation will ever remain a distant dream. Without comprehension, mental magnitude, spiritual depth, selflessness and incorruptibility which are the core indigenous African leadership qualities that defined the Mandela persona, this dream cannot be achieved. A conclusion is here argued that, there is need for a revolution in the aims and methods of power engineering, so that the basic aim becomes the promotion of socially, economically and politically important desires of man; the promotion of wisdom in leadership by rational means, not by knowledge means. Such is argued as the new Africa of the Twenty-First Century. This is a call on African leaders to domesticate the capacity and ability to appreciate and grasp the salient details as well as the practical and temporal implications of a given problem or situation; to lead and live by the personal example set by the Madiba Nelson Mandela, one leader crafted of gold and delivered to Africa for leadership lessons.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Document from the year 2024 in the subject Law - Philosophy, History and Sociology of Law, Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (Arts), course: African Political Philosophy, language: English, abstract: This book interrogates one of the major wrongs of the African Polity namely, the crisis of leadership recruitment.Haven fallen from a formerly epistemic purity of the past, the Nigerian state is conflict of ¿truth¿ and ¿facts¿ as opposed to falsehood/fake news. Today, poor leadership recruitment has aided corruption and instilled the culture of falsehood, propaganda and fake news. In the process created a huge gap between the anticipated gains of democracy and dividends of democracy. This Book argues that the masses in Nigeria are like boats on the volatile sea without a leadership guide and that, democratic consolidation in Nigeria suffers too often because of the problem of failure of leadership. The paper submits that, the Nigerian governance culture is fueled by kakistocratic values that appeal more to ethnic and religious supremacist tendencies than acceptable national values of truth, communality and complementarity which the George Akume leadership philosophy (Ayatutu) upholds. We submit further that, this leadership philosophy herein tagged Ayatutuism strengthens national institutions, manages diversities, establishes and sustains a Nigerian nation worth living in and dying for. Drawing lessons from this leadership recruitment model, we argue the conclusion that, in seeking the whole from the units of individuals through this leadership model, the ontological qualities of mental magnitude, spiritual depth, selflessness and incorruptibility should be made to service this commune-centric leadership model.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay from the year 2021 in the subject Philosophy - Miscellaneous, grade: B+, , language: English, abstract: The primary purpose of this essay is to deconstruct the negative conception of philosophy, providing insight into its nature not only as an aspect of the general human (intellectual) endeavor to acquire self-knowledge, but also to make the philosophical enterprise accessible not only to students making a fresh contact with the discipline or the Universities but also the lay persons who are interested in self-understanding, liberation and critical evaluation of the perennial ideas of human existence. This essay uses the two principal tools of philosophy namely; language and Logic to deploy philosophical expertise and mastery for everyday existential value. Through the language tool, the student and lay readers of philosophy are capacitated with a good command of language of communication to achieve clarity of thought, analysis of ideas and cognitive advantage over nature. The Logic tool on the other hand adds to human capacity the means of proving valid or invalid arguments through the general principles and techniques of good reasoning to the communication or articulation of ideas via the use of symbols. Using these tools, philosophy enlightens humanity, encourages open mindedness and broadens our sensibilities and sensitivity to the ideas of tolerance cooperation and compassion among others. It is here assumed that, knowledge of philosophy will generate and grow our conceptual and theoretical framework for perceiving, feeling, evaluating and transforming reality in our everyday lived lives.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Wissenschaftlicher Aufsatz aus dem Jahr 2020 im Fachbereich Philosophie - Sonstiges, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This study is concerned with the question of personhood in African Philosophy.Studies in Intercultural Philosophies have shown that communal intimate belongingness is mostly limited to a micro community more than the totality of a larger African community. Within the context of this communal living, some African scholars have argued that an individual owns no personality, and only becomes a person through social and ritual incorporation. These scholars have argued from this premise that personhood is a quality acquired as one gets older. This mode of thinking not only ignores the essentials of personhood, namely, self-determination and the rights of the individual, it exposes the overbearing mode of the community and scuttles the inherent freedom and primacy of the individual thought and his right to question communal ideas. We may agree that a youth has a different point of view from that of an older individual, though we affirm on the contrary that both are defined by the quality of personhood. African wisdom literature upholds that life in its existential meaning is human fellowship and solidarity among individuals though, the rights of individual persons and freedom of self-expression within the communities are not in doubt. We argue the conclusion that while communal ethos matures the individual in the community, such conclusion does not have ontological and epistemological precedence over individual persons. In his lone level, the individual experiences varying modes of competing epistemologies that activates his moral arsenals to evaluate, protest, distance and effect reform on some features of the community to ingratiate his widely varying needs and interests.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - Essay aus dem Jahr 2024 im Fachbereich Afrikawissenschaften - Sonstiges, , Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: This paper affirms that life in its existential meaning is human fellowship and solidarity among individuals, although the rights of individual persons and freedom of self-expression within the communities are not in doubt.African intellectuals have been engaged in the recent past in a polarized debate on the concept of personhood. Three major strands in this deconstruction have unfortunately been polarized on ethnic lines. On the one hand is the Menkiti thesis pushes the communitarian conception of personhood that amplifies the Igbo ontology. On the second hand is the Gyekye proposition that illuminates the moderate communitarian thesis that leans to Akan cosmology. There is the third outlook which arises in a Yoruba allegory that highlights individual responsibility. Proponents of these theses have however shown that, communal intimate belongingness is mostly limited to a micro community rather than the totality of a larger African community. Menki (radical communitarianism) has for instance argued within the context of this communal living that, an individual owns no personality, and only becomes a perso n through social and ritual incorporation. Gyekye's (1992) moderate communitarianism and to some extent John Mbiti's (1980) corporate group theory have aligned with Menkiti by conceptualizing personhood as a state of life that is acquired as one participates in communal life through the discharge of the various obligations defined by one's stations. These scholars have argued from this premise that, 'the older an individual becomes, the more of a person that individual becomes', and that, 'personhood is a quality acquired as one gets older'. This mode of thinking not only ignores the essentials of personhood, namely, self-determination and the rights of the individual, it exposes the overbearing mode of the community and scuttles the inherent freedom and primacy of the individual thought and his right to question communal ideas. …
