Paperback. Condición: Fine. 1st. 188 pages, illustrations (some colour), maps; 23 cm. Published on occasion of the exhibition held at the Sainsbury Centre for Visual Arts, University of East Anglia, Norwich. Firm binding, clean inside copy. Profusely illustrated. *** "In debates over the transition from modernism to postmodernism much is made of the shift from the autonomous art object to site-specific work. On Location: Siting Robert Smithson and his Contemporaries revives these debates by exploring the relationship between the site and the gallery space evident in the work of Robert Smithson and his peers. In the 1960s, artists began to work directly with the exhibition space, creating temporary installations or challenging the physical limits of the gallery by transforming its architecture. Others moved beyond the gallery to work on city streets or in the countryside, whilst others still explored the mechanisms of the art world itself, investigating the publications and reproductions that frequently replaced the direct experience of individual works. Robert Smithson engaged with all of these practices in different ways and, as a result, plays a pivotal role in these debates." - Publisher. *** CONTENTS: The dialectic of place: the non-site and the limits of modernism, by Simon Dell; Mirrors and monuments, entropy in the ebb tide, by William Wood; Arts of isolation, arts of coalition, by Alistair Rider. Size: 8vo. Collectible.

Hardcover. Condición: Fine. Estado de la sobrecubierta: As New. 1st Edition. 367pp. Bright, clean & tight copy, unread, in Fine/As New condition. "Art styles and movements are created or identified in many different ways. Some are fashioned by artists themselves, groups of like-minded men and women who share a similar way of thinking or looking. Others are created in retrospect, by historians who seek to understand art based on shared techniques or themes. Yet others are born of political causes or in reaction to social or cultural circumstances--an attempt to alter history, or reinforce the status quo, or reject both history and status quo altogether in a determination to start again. [] ART IN TIME introduces some 150 of the most important and influential styles, schools and movements, spanning not just the Western tradition but also styles from India, China, Japan, Latin America and Africa. Beginning with the present day and moving back in time, the reader is encouraged to discover the ways art plays with, and builds on, earlier ideas, beliefs and traditions. Each style or movement is examined in the context of the times in which it arose--for art history is cultural history, and all art is culturally specific. Nevertheless, the intersections between the political, religious, economic and social timelines of disparate cultures and different practices show that art is not created in a vacuum, either chronological or geographical. [] ART IN TIME is for 'all those who feel in need of some orientation in a strange and fascinating field,' and an invitation to see art anew. Because art, and artists, are ever-changing, informed by their time and their predecessors, adapting and reshaping the way we see and interpret the world." [jacket copy] "Beautifully produced. . . An absorbing and enlightening gallop through art. The careful balance of digestible chunks of information with beautiful images makes this equally rewarding as a dip-into coffeetable book or a cover to cover read."--Royal Academy of Arts Magazine. Pristine hardcover is massive w/brilliant corners & crisp edges, a square & tight binding, (very slight beump on bottom front board), wrapped in a bright-as-new jacket covered in archival mylar. Big book will likely require additional postage to reach you safely. Quite presentable.

Hardcover. Condición: As New. 1st Edition. Hardcover, 93 pages : illustrations (some colour) ; 27 cm. Fine/as new, still in publishers shrink wrap. At a time when Abstract Expressionism prevailed and was identified as an American-abstract art, artists with a different vision adopted a less painterly and subjective approach. These 'Minimal' artists attempted to remove expressive, narrative or symbolic interpretations for the viewer to concentrate on the qualities of form, colour, space and materials. To draw the viewer into a direct relationship with the artwork they created their own pictorial language, often based on the use of simple geometric forms and employed industrial materials. The Marzona Collection was shown in a museum context in Vienna at the Museum Moderner Kunst Stiftung Ludwig in 1995, then during the 2001 Venice Biennale at Villa Manin (and also in the Kunsthalle Bielefeld) and has been on long-term loan to the Staatliche Museen zu Berlin.

paperback. Carl Andre is one of the most significant and influential artists of his generation. Alongside contemporaries such as Robert Morris and Donald Judd, his radically minimalist sculpture and poetry has fundamentally shifted the definitions and boundaries of art. Spanning four decades, this book charts the gradual evolution of consensus about the meaning of his art. The most significant essays and exhibition reviews have been collated into one volume, including texts written by some of the most influential art historians and critics: Clement Greenberg, Donald Kuspit, Lucy R. Lippard, Robert C. Morgan, Barbara Rose and Roberta Smith. Some essays appear here in English for the first time. This volume is an indispensable anthology on one of the central figures of Minimalism.Text: Feldman Paula , Schubert Karsten et al.cm 21x15,5; pp. 388; 20 BW ills.; paperback. book.

Buch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - An up-to-date and comprehensive guide to 150 of the most significant styles and movements that have shaped art history through time. All art is of its time, and this book is the first survey that explicitly embeds styles, schools and movements within the politics and culture in which they arose, by means of timelines, textual references and the unique present-to-past arrangement of the book.An essential guide to art styles and movements and a history of world art from the present day to Greek antiquity, this book places the reader in the art historian's seat, offering an opportunity to work backwards from our own time and reconnect the dots, or even find new dots to connect. It revives art history, for both the specialist and the general reader coming to the subject with limited knowledge - it shows graphically that art history is a living thing, not dead.
