Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -In this research study, the Ribble Estuary and Fylde Coast model was refined to more accurately predict bathing water quality and use parameters which give a better representation of the existing physical and bio-chemical processes. Empirical formulation linking the mortality (decay) rate of bacterial water quality indicators to environmental conditions such as solar irradiation, turbidity, temperature and salinity was added to the numerical code. The linked boundary between the 1-D and 2-D domains of the numerical model was improved by removing large overlapped linked region. An existing numerical code was rewritten to take advantage of the parallel computing capability of the Graphics Processing Unit (GPU). This was tested on the Ribble Estuary and the Thames Estuary model. This research study improved the ability to predict bathing water quality accurately by introducing more realistic representation of environmental conditions and using parallel computing. This improved the ability to carry real time forecasting of bathing water quality and hence prevent failure to meet the requirements of the EU Bathing Water Directive. 304 pp. Englisch.…

Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book tackles the challenge of accurately predicting water quality in natural systems where artificial boundaries are irrelevant. Traditional hydro-environmental models often use inconsistent parameters across catchments, rivers, estuaries, and coastal waters, leading to errors in assessing diffuse source pollution and bathing water compliance. The study implements a Cloud-to-Coast (C2C) modelling approach, linking catchment, river, and estuarine-coastal models using common input parameters. An empirical formulation captures bacterial decay influenced by salinity, temperature, turbidity, and solar irradiance. The Ribble Estuary and Fylde Coast models were refined with improved 1-D/2-D domain linkages and reduced computational overlap. Numerical codes were optimized for GPU-based parallel computing, tested on the Ribble and Thames Estuaries with over 80 million bathymetric points. This approach enhances predictive accuracy, allows real-time forecasting, and supports compliance with the EU Bathing Water Directive, providing a more realistic, integrated, and computationally efficient framework for environmental impact assessment.…
