Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book delves into the often-overlooked challenges faced by surveyors, who must navigate a world of uncertain boundaries and fading landmarks. While measuring land may seem straightforward, the author reveals the complexities of "finding" the land to be surveyed. Through historical context and practical examples, the book explores the evolution of land descriptions, from ancient reliance on landmarks to the rise of detailed maps and guaranteed titles. It examines the inherent limitations of deeds, often drafted with legal rather than surveying precision, and sheds light on the "principle of cumulative evidence" used by surveyors to decipher ambiguous clues and arrive at the most probable boundary lines. From stakes and stones to marked trees and forgotten fences, the book unveils the secrets held by seemingly ordinary features of the landscape. It emphasizes the importance of local knowledge and customs in interpreting these subtle signs, and ultimately underscores the surveyor's role not just as a measurer of land, but as a detective of its history and a guardian of its future stability. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.…
