Contemporary dark brown cloth; staining to boards with worn corners; spine cloth glued down to underlying back-strip; spine frayed at ends with tearing and slender separation along joints (hinges are firm); some dulling/flaking to spine's gilt stamping but all still easily legible. Front free endpaper glued down to front pastedown; O'Casey family Mississippi and Ireland genealogical-themed bookplate affixed upon front fly verso; pencil inscription "[?] Anderson | Brooklyn" and ink number stamp at top right of second front fly; another ink number stamp at bottom center of title page; moisture tidelines and some soiling to initial and rear leaves; varied foxing throughout. Binding is firm. Book now presented in a trimmed clear Dura-Lar (polyester film) sheet forming a dj which enhances shelf appearance. Acquired from the estate of Birmingham, Alabama pathologist, bibliophile, and genealogist Dr. Albert Eugene Casey (1903-1982) who served as director of laboratories at Birmingham Baptist Hospitals from 1942-1972. Aforementioned ink number stamps are likely Dr. Casey's personal library catalog numbers as other similar number stamps appear among books from his collection. OCLC does not cite any 1846 editions but does cite 1847, 1848, 1852, 1856, 1859, 1861, 1862, 1865, 1868, and 1870.…

Both covers are loose and have been secured at the inner hinge with acid-resistant film pad. The leather is scuffed, front cover has scratches. Contains approximately 300 pages, of which 74 contain approximately 65 recipes (some double-sided), written in ink in a rather idiosyncratic handwriting. Fifteen pages at the back of the book contain notes (names, prices, etc., presumably butter sales? - see notes and photos). The endpapers and first pages are written on the front and back in pencil with names and some London addresses. The outside is in fair condition, the inside is still in good condition. --- Originaler Lederband mit intakter Messing-Schließe (abschließbar, aber der Schlüssel fehlend) sowie bunt marmorierten Schnitten. Beide Deckel sind lose und wurden im Innengelenk mit säurehaltigem Filmpolast befestigt. Das Leder ist beschabt, Vorderdeckel mit Kratzspuren.
