Grund hierfü…r ist die Erweiterung des Anwendungsspektrums der automatischen Bildanalyse auf Problemstellungen, die dreidimensionale Informationen erfordern. Aufgrund der Kostspieligkeit von bsp. Laserscannern werden vermehrt Forschungen betrieben, wie Tiefenwerte aus Graubildern gewonnen werden können. Die Autorin Ute Katranski beschäftigt sich mit einem diesbezüglichen Lösungsansatz, dem sogenannten »Shape from Shading«. Bei diesem Verfahren kann unter gewissen Annahmen über Beleuchtung und Reflexionseigenschaften des betrachteten Objekts dessen Form aus der Schattierung der Oberfläche rekonstruiert werden. Nach einer Einführung zu den Grundlagen des Verfahrens wird die eigentliche Theorie des »Shape from Shading« erläutert. Darauf aufbauend werden konkrete Ansätze im Detail erarbeitet und gegenübergestellt. Auf Basis dessen wird einer der Algorithmen herausgegriffen und die Umsetzung als Benutzeranwendung sowie die damit erzielten Testergebnisse aufgezeigt.
