Paperback. Condición: Good. Rick Austin is a teacher, reserve officer and freelance journalist. Since 9/11 he has observed Americans treating Islam as a religion although it has become clear to him that it is much more. Because of this he knows he needs to dig deeper and he needs to do so quickly. Sam Flynn has the answers and along with his Lebanese American friends, he's willing to teach Rick all he needs to know. In the meantime, Abe Schahab's brother, Ahmed, has been living in Germany secretly helping U.S. agencies keep tabs on known and suspected terrorists. A Lebanese Jihadist's attempt to recruit him as a terrorist endangers his life. He joins his brother in the U.S. where his courage and training are immediately put to use. As the story unfolds, everyone finds themselves in Tampa where lessons are learned, old acquaintances are reestablished, new friendships take hold, romance is in the air and Jihadists plot terror. …

Paperback. Condición: Good. : The beginning of my story starts with my Great-Great Grandparents from Germany during the 1800's, and immigrating on foot and by wagon to Russia. The hard working settlers were determined to make this their home. Before long small villages were formed. The unsettled times arrived during Stalin's reign in W I, leaving thousand of families hungry and starving. My childhood memories of fear and poverty in my hometown of Johannestal. Living under the Communist Regime, struggling with the day to day brutality which was bestowed on the German people. Men, women and children being sent off to Siberia to hard labor camps, often never to be seen or heard of ever again. Going through the times of food rations for a whole day of work. During Hitler's rule, times were starting to look better but before long Germany was in trouble. We were ordered to pack up our belongings and leave our homes. The villagers traveled the country side on foot, one by one, on the long wagon trail to West Germany. We landed in the small town of Creglingen where we made our new home. World War I was in full swing, where my brother was drafted. In 1945, Germany lost the war. With the war over, we located missing family members, and now I was off to a fresh new beginning on Canadian soil.…

Paperback. Condición: Very Good. NATIONAL BESTSELLER * The New York Times bestselling author of A History of God delivers the gripping, inspirational story about her own search for God. "A story about becoming human, being recognized, finally recognizing oneself. It fills the reader with hope." --The Washington Post Book WorldIn 1962, at age seventeen, Karen Armstrong entered a convent, eager to meet God. After seven brutally unhappy years as a nun, she left her order to pursue English literature at Oxford. But convent life had profoundly altered her, and coping with the outside world and her expiring faith proved to be excruciating. Her deep solitude and a terrifying illness-diagnosed only years later as epilepsy--marked her forever as an outsider. In her own mind she was a complete failure: as a nun, as an academic, and as a normal woman capable of intimacy. Her future seemed very much in question until she stumbled into comparative theology. What she found, in learning, thinking, and writing about other religions, was the ecstasy and transcendence she had never felt as a nun.…

Hardback. Condición: Good. Engrossing, beautiful, and deeply imaginative, Out of Darkness, Shining Light is a novel that lends voice to those who appeared only as footnotes in history, yet whose final, brave act of loyalty and respect changed the course of it. An incredible and important book by a masterful writer. --Yaa Gyasi, author of HomegoingThis is how we carried out of Africa the poor broken body of Bwana Daudi, the Doctor, David Livingstone, so that he could be borne across the sea and buried in his own land. So begins Petina Gappah's powerful novel of exploration and adventure in nineteenth-century Africa--the captivating story of the loyal men and women who carried explorer and missionary Dr. Livingstone's body, his papers and maps, fifteen hundred miles across the continent of Africa, so his remains could be returned home to England and his work preserved there. Narrated by Halima, the doctor's sharp-tongued cook, and Jacob Wainwright, a rigidly pious freed slave, this is a story that encompasses all of the hypocrisy of slavery and colonization--the hypocrisy at the core of the human heart--while celebrating resilience, loyalty, and love.…
