Softcover. Condición: gut. Auflage: 2 (Juni 1962). In the classic bestseller, Capitalism and Freedom, Milton Friedman presents his view of the proper role of competitive capitalism--the organization of economic activity through private enterprise operating in a free market--as both a device for achieving economic freedom and a necessary condition for political freedom. Beginning with a discussion of principles of a liberal society, Friedman applies them to such constantly pressing problems as monetary policy, discrimination, education, income distribution, welfare, and poverty. "Milton Friedman is one of the nation's outstanding economists, distinguished for remarkable analytical powers and technical virtuosity. He is unfailingly enlightening, independent, courageous, penetrating, and above all, stimulating."-Henry Hazlitt, Newsweek "It is a rare professor who greatly alters the thinking of his professional colleagues. It's an even rarer one who helps transform the world. Friedman has done both."-Stephen Chapman, Chicago Tribune "Capitalism and Freedom" is not quite as easy a read as another one of Friedman's fine books, "Free to Choose," but, it is still accessible to non economic majors. Friedman sets forth some of his classic views in this book such as the negative income tax and free trade. One of his most interesting discussions is his questioning of the role of state universities and colleges. He likens the low tuitions at these public institutions to scholarships and wonders why those who go to public, as opposed to private universities deserve such scholarships. He raises, in 1963, a topic that is timely now school vouchers. Most controversially, Friedman believes that almost all professional licensing should be done away with. In other words, he believes the free market can protect the consumer and that even licensing of physicians may not be necessary. In fact, such licensing may stifle innovation. Whether o9r not you agree with Friedman, this book raises fascinating questions and provides well thought out answers. Capitalism and Freedom (Phoenix Books) von Milton Friedman Rose D. Taschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - This book brings together a number of well-known post-Keynesian scholars who discuss the impact of monetary policy on both personal and functional distribution of income and even the gendered effect of monetary policy. The impact of monetary policy (changes in interest rates) on income distribution is increasingly being recognized as a legitimate channel of monetary policy transmission. The study of this new channel - once the purview of post-Keynesian theory - is an important step in understanding the complicated and myriad effects of central bank policy. The chapters in this book raise a number of other questions about monetary policy that are still underdeveloped in the economic literature. This book is essential reading for students, scholars and policy makers interested in economic policy, monetary theory, income distribution and post-Keynesian economics. The chapters in this book were originally published in the Review of Political Economy.…

Hardback. Condición: New. Part of The Elgar Series on Central Banking and Monetary Policy, this book explores the relationship between central banking, monetary policy and income distribution. The usual central bank mandate - that of exclusively fighting inflation - is being increasingly questioned by policymakers and academics. Many countries are finding that there is a need for broader mandates that will have an impact on economic activity, unemployment and other economic issues. The chapters present a multitude of theoretical views on this topic, from classical and Marxist views to mainstream and post-Keynesian approaches. They consider the democratic aspects of central banking, critically assess the distributional outcomes of inflation targeting regimes and explore policymaking implications.Policy makers, academics and the financial press will appreciate the relevance of the material and state of the art discussions featured in Central Banking, Monetary Policy and Income Distribution.…
