Druck auf Anfrage Neuware - Printed after ordering - The morphological behaviour of leucocytes leaving the blood has been studied for more than a hundred years and can be described in some detail, but the mechanisms involved are for the most part still unclear. Following an inflammatory stimulus, dy namic changes occur in small blood vessels near the inflamed site and are followed by margination of leucocytes and by their adherence to the endovascular surface of endo out of the vessel in the gaps between endothelial thelial cells. The leucocytes migrate cells and move towards the noxious stimulus, directed presumably by chemotactic gra dients. Having reached the gradient source, they may engage in phagocytosis, killing and digestion of micro-organisms or of damaged tissue. Aim of this study was the characterisation of a possible inflammatory reaction in the equine jejunum and colon after intestinal manipulations as they may occur during colic surgery. The most obvious inflammatory response involved the neutrophilic granulocytes after manual emptying of the bowel, serosal, and mucosal irritation and was seen in the serosa. The eosinophilic response involved an increased accumulation and redistribution of the mucosa in the colon. Additionally, jejunal manipulations resulted in an increased eosinophilic infiltration of the colonic mucosa. Traditional water treatment is not enough effective to eliminate pollutants having environmental, ecotoxicological and human health risk. Such contaminants are e.g. pharmaceuticals, widely used by humans and thus present in surface and drinking waters. Consequently, additional techniques, such as Advanced Oxidation Processes (AOPs), are needed to be integrated in the traditional processes. Beside highly reactive hydroxyl radical, several reactive species form during the application of AOPs. However, only a few data are given concerning the reactions of these species. This work presents their role and importance, investigated during the vacuum ultraviolet photolysis of four selected drugs. Thus, suggestions could be put forward concerning the effects of different parameters on the radical set and on the role of various reactive species on the transformation of the studied drugs. These results could contribute to improve the efficiency of AOPs and therefore may be useful for both newcomers and professionals working in the field of water cleaning or interested in reaction mechanisms. …
