This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -This book is based on empirical evidence and primary data from the local communities in post-conflict areas of northern Uganda. It depicts how Donor Agencies at most times have neglected the poor's ideas and approaches to develop themselves. Corruption and mistrust between local communities and their governments is also exclusively exposed. Thoughts of the poor and how would they have loved development approaches to be designed is also exhibited. This book compared the Development Cooperation programmes of the three international Development Agencies i.e. German International Development Agency (GIZ), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and Department for International development (DFID). The Geo-social political interests were also discovered as they differed to development of the poor, while even levels of participation were analysed and presented against each development agency. For the purposes of credibility, this research was examined by two most trusted Professors in Germany before it was submitted. It is a must read and reliable book for those interested in the role of the poor in determining their destiny. 152 pp. Englisch.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. This item is printed on demand - it takes 3-4 days longer - Neuware -Much of the literature on community involvement and participation in tourism development focus on the importance rather than how these can be realized. As a result there has been short of empirical evidence, especially from the grassroots on how these (community involvement and participation) could be achieved for the sustainability of the tourism industry and its contribution to poverty reduction. This book brings together and examines empirically both aspects of community involvement and participation (decision-making process and benefit sharing) along with tourism's contribution to poverty reduction. Its findings are strengthened through the triangulation of both quantitative and qualitative data, the author's two-month period of fieldwork and experience in the study area, coupled with his experience with the wider community in the study country, Tanzania. The book is useful to a wide range of people, particularly those who are interested with the integration of local communities in tourism development. The primary audience is tourism researchers, students, tourism managers, government agencies, non-governmental organizations and other practitioners at community level. 196 pp. Englisch.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - The aim of this book was to determine the effect of community participation on social capital in Cameroon. If we consider that local development is a process by which a community manages to coordinate itself around objectives that fall within its territorial jurisdiction, it is clear that the real complexity linked to the emergence of a community lies in its ability to strengthen the links between the actors involved. As part of this research, we used data from the Afrobaromètre Round7 survey conducted in 2018 among 1202 individuals. The use of a recursive probitbivariate incorporating the constraint of full-time work supply enabled us to show that community involvement significantly amplifies relations of trust and solidarity in Cameroon. Hence, considering that high social capital is an expedient for the economic and social development of Cameroonian localities.

Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. nach der Bestellung gedruckt Neuware - Printed after ordering - This book explores how policies of decentralisation and community participation adopted in Cameroon in 1996 have played out on the ground since 2004. These reforms were carried out amid economic crisis, structural adjustment and political upheaval. At the time, popular sentiment was that change on the economic and political fronts was imperative. However, the ruling elite, some of whom had been shuttling around the state apparatus since independence, feared that succumbing to popular demands for change was tantamount to political suicide, as was the case elsewhere on the continent. These elites thwarted opposition demands for a 'sovereign' national conference to discuss constitutional reform. The Francophone-dominated elite fiercely objected to Anglophone demands for the restoration of the Federal state that was dissolved in 1972. Instead, decentralisation was presented as an authentic forum for grassroots autonomy and municipal councils as credible arenas for community participation in local development. This study adopts an interdisciplinary approach to unearth the permutations of decentralisation and community participation in Cameroon. It explores how local actors have responded to the implementation of state policy of decentralisation. Further, it documents how local issues observed in Bali in the North West Region and Mbankomo in the Central Region of Cameroon impact and are impacted by national policies and processes.
