Añadir al carrito238 S., broschiert. Condición: Sehr gut. Ein gutes und sauberes Exemplar. - Contrary to the expectations on which market reforms were based, in many parts of the developing world liberalized economies have been characterized by variable i mixes of macroeconomic vulnerability, low investment ratios, increasing interna- tional and domestic technological gaps, and distributive tensions. Most Latin American countries are examples of the economic and social frustrations that structural reforms have generated. These results have revived the debate on development. The United Nations Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC) has been at the forefront of this debate. This book presents the contributions of some ECLAC analysts as well as research articles prepared for the Commission. Beyond Reforms reviews long-term growth and development patterns and focuses on macroeconomic vulnerability and its social effects. The eight chapters offer theoretical and methodological contributions that share a common focus: how to improve the frustratingly poor economic performance in Latin America, as well as in other parts of the developing world, experienced during the recent phase of economic liberalization. This collection presents a more precise view of the risks and challenges that characterize the new economic era and advances a set of alternative economic policies to manage the open developing-country economies of the early twenty-first century. Ideas that have been absent from the reform agenda over the past two decades are recognized as critical in fostering the improved economic and social performance that liberalization has so far failed to produce. Añadir al carritoTaschenbuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - This collection presents the difficult challenges of the new economic era as well as a set of alternative economic policies for managing the open Latin American economies of the early twenty-first century. Ideas that were removed from the reform agenda over the past two decades are seen as critical to the improved economic and social performance that liberalization has so far failed to produce. These ideas include a role for counter-cyclical macroeconomic policies, including restrictions on capital mobility; active productive sector and technological development policies; and the need to pay greater attention not only to social policies, but also to the links between economic policies and social outcomes, in order to guarantee a desirable social performance. This collection sheds new light on issues that were largely overlooked during the reform period, and that must be faced squarely to overcome the deficiencies that Latin America has faced during its phase of liberalization and its dismal economic performance since the Asian crisis.

Añadir al carritoBuch. Condición: Neu. Neuware - 'Beyond Reforms constitutes an important and timely step towards a new post-Washington Consensus paradigm for economic and social policy in Latin America. It brings to bear the thinking of an impressive group of authors on the current policy context of the region, in the form of insightful treatments of macrodynamics, external debt, fiscal policy, technological gaps, de-industrialization, and poverty, together with attention to the interaction among these variables and policy dimensions. It is thought-provoking, sometimes surprising, and always educational.' --Albert Berry, Research Director, Programme on Latin America and the Caribbean, Centre for International Studies, University of Toronto.
