All thirty-eight sheets of the original edition are reproduced here in full color, preserving the Sanborn color key that distinguishes brick, frame, stone, and fireproof construction at a glance. Surveyed at the height of Barberton's industrial boom, when the "Magic City" counted 23,000 residents, the atlas documents the town building by building: street addresses, construction materials, building heights and uses, business names, water mains, and fire hydrants. The great industrial plants that defined Barberton appear in remarkable detail, including the Diamond Match Company's Barberton Factory, the Babcock & Wilcox Company Boiler and Shell Works, the Pittsburgh Plate Glass Company's Columbia Chemical Division, the Ohio Insulator Company, the Sun Rubber Company, and the Seiberling Rubber Company. Coverage extends through the downtown blocks around Lake Anna, the residential allotments, the Ohio Canal and the Erie and B&O railroad corridors, and outward to Johnson Corners and the edge of the Village of Kenmore. A full street and specials index on the title sheet locates every church, school, factory, and allotment. An essential reference for genealogists, house historians, and collectors of Summit County history. 40 pages. 8.5" x 11". Full color. Paperback. Satisfaction guaranteed or you can send it back.…

Añadir al carritoCondición: New. This is a complete color facsimile of Insurance Maps of Hamilton, Ohio, published by the Sanborn Map Company of New York in 1927. All ninety-eight sheets are reproduced in full color from the original survey, together with the engraved title plate, the key map, the separate Map of the Congested District, and the full index. Sanborn fire insurance maps are the most detailed record that survives of an American city's built fabric, and by 1927 the key had grown to cover a modern city: fire-proof and fire-resistive construction, iron, stone, tile, hollow concrete or cement block, reinforced concrete, brick with brick, metal, frame or stone fronts, brick veneered, brick and frame, frame, and metal clad. Each sheet gives story heights and ground elevations, fire walls, wired glass, iron and tin-clad shutters, elevators and hoistways with their traps, steam boilers, chimneys, stand pipes, gasoline tanks, private garages, and whether a building was sprinklered, partly sprinklered, or not sprinklered at all, with automatic fire alarms and independent electric plants flagged where they existed. The volume also carries a separate Map of the Congested District at 200 feet to an inch, showing every downtown building footprint at a glance, colored by construction, sprinklered buildings flagged, fire stations in black, story heights printed inside the buildings and street widths printed in the streets. The key map runs from Two Mile Creek and the Belt Line in the north down along the Great Miami River and the Miami & Erie Canal, past Greenwood Cemetery, the Fair Grounds and the Butler County Infirmary, out to Hyde Park and Lindenwald. A full street index and a "Specials" index of named firms and institutions make it possible to find any address or business by sheet number. What they record is a machine-tool and paper city at its height: the Niles Tool Works, Hooven, Owens & Rentschler, the Mosler Safe Co. and Herring, Hall, Marvin Safe Co., the Black-Clawson Co. building paper-mill machinery, the Champion Coated Paper Co. and Beckett Paper Co., the Columbia and Liberty machine tool works, the Hamilton Corliss Engine Works, Foundry and Machine Co. and Cooper and Brass Works, the Estate Stove Co., American Can's Plant No. 54-A, Long & Allstetter's shear works, Schuler & Benninghofen's woolen mills and the Miami Valley Knitting Mills. Beside them stand the marks of the new decade: a Ford Motor Co. plant, the Hamilton & Cincinnati bus station, Doran Bros. making radio apparatus, filling stations and public garages, the Rentschler Building, and the Hamilton Community Hotel finished that same year ? along with City Hall and jail, the Butler County Court House, Mercy and Fort Hamilton hospitals, the Lane Free Library, Notre Dame Academy for Girls, and the Daily News and Journal printing plants. The key map also carries the underwriters' report for 1927: a population of 51,000; forty-five miles of paved street; ninety miles of water main and 780 hydrants fed from ten driven wells and a six-million-gallon reservoir; and a fully motorized fire department of a chief, five assistant chiefs and fifty-four men across six stations, running two Ahrens-Fox pumpers and a seventy-five-foot aerial truck. Reproduced from the copy in the Library of Congress. An essential reference for genealogists, house historians, and collectors of Hamilton and Ohio history. 104 pages. 8.5" x 11.25". Full color. Hardcover. Satisfaction guaranteed or you can send it back.…
