This study aimed to examine conflict occurrences in selected Niger Delta communities related to oil exploration by Agip, assess the causes and consequences of these conflicts on the communities and oil companies, identify community relations strategies used for conflict resolution, and evaluate the effectiveness of these approaches in addressing oil spillages. The study employed Conflict Theory, Social Atavistic Conflict Theory, and Stakeholder Theory, and utilized a survey method to gather data from five selected communities. The findings revealed varying perceptions of conflict occurrences, with Shell, Agip, and Chevron identified as key players. The causes of conflicts were attributed to factors such as government representation by oil companies, infrastructure deficiencies, and political influences. Based on the findings, the study recommends actions to address conflict triggers, enhance community awareness, improve community relations strategies, reduce military presence, provide skill training, and foster government cooperation.…
