The country is moving toward a more holistic view of the problem, understanding that prison reform requires a host of other social transformations to make incarceration a last resort. This book speaks to a range of Americans: people involved in prison reform, prisoner support, and rehabilitation organizations, anti-death penalty groups, as well as ordinary people who know something must be done.
