Each of these topics can also be studied in a more traditional, descrptive manner, but the student who reads this book, and does the exercises and computing projects, will emerge with a different level of understanding of the kind that can only be achieved through modeling and simulation. The book is written primarily for students who have had one semester of calculus, but parts can be read with even less mathematical background, and other parts touch on more advances methods are included many of wich expand on themes developed in the text.
