Neuware - It is forty years since Burgeff published, in 1926, the first comprehensive catalogue of the genus Zygaena Fabricius, forming part 33 of the Lepidopterorum Catalogus. Following the pattern and general layout of Burgeff's work, we have attempted to produce a catalogue in which all names in t…he genus Zygaena are included, with references to the literature where these names were originally published. Additional references are included when these refer to illustrations of a species, subspecies or form, or to a taxonomic change, e.g., a change in status. References to misidentifications are generally omitted unless a new species has been described at a later date. In compiling this work we have adhered to the International Code of Zoological Nomenclature as adopted by the XV International Congress of Zoology. However, although the International Commission on Zoological Nomenclature recognises the necessity of names of lower rank than subspecies, they do not at present deal with such names. The provisions of the Code do not apply to them and, therefore, such names have no nomenclatural status. Every subspecies is given equal status in the catalogue although their relative value is not always the same. Certain authors have very often separated sub species on minute differences and a subsequent examination of further material, taken over a number of years, has shown that the differences are not always constant. In many cases, however, we have been unable to verify the status of each subspecies.

Neuware - The development of monoclonal antibodies to human tumor associated antigens has greatly facilitated the application of immunohistochemical techniques to analyze surgically removed tissues. During the last few years this approach has been utilized by a progressively increasing number of inve…stigators to analyze malignant cells. Although monoclonal antibodies to tumor associated antigens have not become yet routine reagents in immunopathology, they have provided new information which could not be obtained with conventional antisera or histochemical procedures. The following are representative examples. TUmor associated antigens have been identified which display a restricted distribution in normal tissues and therefore may represent useful markers for radio imaging and appropriate targets for immunotherapy. In spite of undetec table differences with conventional histopathological approaches hetero geneity has been found in the antigenic profile of tumor cells within a lesion, in autologous lesions removed from different anatomic sites from a given patient and in lesions removed from different patients. Phenotypes of tumor cells have been identified which correlate with the biology of tumor cells and with the clinical course of the disease. From a practical view point the use of monoclonal antibodies in immunopathology has enhanced interactions between pathologists and immunologists, as exemplified by the present book. Such interactions have contributed to the application of basic research to clinical problems. The chapter of this book discuss investigations performed with monoclonal antibodies to antigens expressed by various types of normal and malignant human cells.

Neuware - Remains of fossil frogs, elsewhere scarce, have been found abundantly for more than one hundred and twenty five years in the Tertiary deposits in northern and western Bohemia. In most cases they are imprints of complete skeletons or their parts poorly preserved in carbonaceous claystones, a…nd difficult to interpret. A new locality of Tertiary diatomites that has been discovered in 1950 in northern Bohemia, not far from the town of DMin, is Bechlejovice. This locality yielded very interesting material: in addition to innumerable leaf imprints, frequent frog-remains were so excellently pre served that they made possible studies not only of skeletal parts but also outlines of muscles, organs, blood vessels, nerves, pigments, some cartilages, glands, etc. Up to now, numbers designating remains of adult individuals have totalled 1,100, besides 80 palaeobatrachid tadpoles. There were also found seven adult specimens and more than 60 tadpoles of pelobatids. Nor should be omitted other localities in Bohemia (see below) which furnished new material and thus much new information. Examinations made on the new finds necessitated revision of earlier collections deposited at the following Institutions: The Department of Palaeontology of Charles University, Prague; the National Museum in Prague; the State Museum for Mineralogy and Geology, Dresden; the Palaeontologic Institute and Museum of Humboldt University, Berlin (East Germany); the Institute for Geology and Palaeonto logy of Martin-Luther-Universitat, Halle-Wittenberg, DomstraBe 5, East Germany; the British Museum (Natural History), London.

The meetings were held in the interim between the full operations of the Solar Maximum Mission (SMM) in 1980, and the…renewed operations after its repair in orbit in April 1984. Their general objectives were as follows: o Synthesize flare studies after three years of SMM data analysis. Many analyses of individual flares and individual phenomena, often jointly across many data sources had been published, but a need existed for a broader synthesis and updating of our understanding of solar flares since the Skylab Flare Workshops held several years earlier. o Encourage a broader participation in the SMM data anlysis and combine this more fully with theory and other data sources--data obtained with other spacecraft such as the HINOTORI, P78-1, and ISEE-3 spacecrafts, and with the Very Large Array (VLA) and many other ground-based instruments. Many coordinated data sets, unprecedented in their breadth of coverage and multiplicity of sources, had been obtained within the structure of the Solar Maximum Year (SMY). o Stimulate joint studies, and publication in the general scientific literature. The intended primary benefit was for informal collaborations to be started or broadened at the Workshops with subsequent publications. o Provide a special publication resulting from this Workshop. o Provide a starting point of understanding for planning renewed full observations with the repaired SMM.
