After finding relief in a support group for veterans run by an ally named Grant Klein, Michael finally feels close enough to Grace to reveal that his traumatization stems from when he tortured a child for information, and was then betrayed by his commanding ocer and the platoon he belonged to. Michael's willingness to work with Zern and his goons reaches it's boiling point, and he is going to have to make a choice as to whether to live his life as the Masked Man, or live as Grace sees him, the man she loves.
