Inspired by the concept of "Curatorial Activism," the exhibition seeks to bring Chinese women-long marginalized or overlooked in mainstream narratives of immigration history-back into the center of historical discourse. Through their stories, it explores how they moved from the era of footbinding into modern society, crossed the Pacific to the United States, and established families, preserved cultural traditions, and reshaped their identities amid exclusion laws, racial discrimination, and cultural negotiation.The exhibition is organized into three sections. The first, Bound Bodies: Footbinding, Beauty, and Female Destiny, examines how the practice of footbinding shaped Chinese women's understanding of the body, beauty, and social identity, and how they lived within, adapted to, and ultimately challenged this system.
