Please feel free to ask for particulars and/or additional photographs. . The publisher's website notes: "The Southeast Asian Ceramic Society was founded in 1969 in Singapore to widen appreciation and acquire knowledge of the ceramic art of China and countries adjacent to China, especially those of Southeast Asia. To pursue this aim, members meet in live or online sessions to hear talks by both local and international experts, to share information and to study and compare 'pots'. Members also have access to previous recorded lectures and events, but many of this website's features are free and available to all as you will discover. . The first pottery to survive in appreciable quantities belongs to the Han Dynasty (202 B.C.A.D. 220); most of it has been excavated from graves. Perhaps the most common form is the hu ( ), a baluster-shaped vase copied from bronze vessels of the same name and sometimes decorated with relief ornament in friezes taken directly from a bronze original. The hill jar ( ) is another fairly frequent form, and many models of servants, domestic animals, buildings, wellheads, dovecotes, and the like also have been discovered in graves. During the Han dynasty, two types of glazed ceramics appeared low-fired pottery and high-fired porcelain. Northern China saw the invention, presumably for funerary purposes only, of a low-fired lead glaze, tinted brown or green. Towards the end of the Han, high-fired porcelain with a thin olive or brownish green glaze was invented in northern Zhejiang region, In exceptionally good condition In exceptionally good condition.

English text.; Hardcover (with dust jacket); 24 x 31.5 cm; 1,328 Kg.;191 pages with 200 colour illustrations.; Used book with signs of wear. The hinge is cracked, but the binding is still firmly attached. Sticker glued to the rear of front cover. The dust jacket has minor signs of wear, but is slightly faded on the spine. The dust jacket is now protected with a clearcover. Good readable copy.; This catalogue emerges after the exhibition with the same name that was jointly organised by the Southeast Asian Ceramic Society and the National Museum of Singapore, in 1991. Focusing on ceramics for tomb furnishings made during the Han dynasty, this catalogue provides the reader with an insight on the confluence between utility and ritual wares. With introductory texts by renowned and learned scholars, such as Lu Yaw, Professor Chiyun Chen, Abu Ridho, Eng-Lee Seok Chee, Rosemary Scott, Candance Lewis and Chen Huasha, the subsequent catalogue is divided into five types of wares, namely Plain Pottery, Painted Pottery, Glazes Pottery, Proto-Greenware and True Greenware. It comprises more than 200 colour plates illustrating rigorously classified and dated objects, along with short descriptions, which provide glimpses into the culture and artistry of the potters of the period. The catalogue ends with a list of lenders and a glossary, and as a whole provides the reader with unique insights on the Han dynasty, which may be considered a landmark in the history of Chinese ceramic production.

Minor signs of wear in the interior, namely some minor wear marks on the rear of the front cover and on front free endpaper.; Compiled by the Southeast Asia Ceramic Society in Singapore, this catalogue was published on the occasion of the exhibition on Chinese celadons and other related wares in Southeast Asia, organised by the SEACS together with the National Museum in Singapore IN 1979. Beginning with an introduction by Lu Yaw, who examines the evolution of the celadon tradition in China from its beginning to the Qing dynasty, the other six articles go on to explore celadons found in Europe, India and Sri Lanka, Brunei and Sarawak, and how the Chinese production of celadons impacted on the these wares made in other centres, such as Thailand, Korea and Japan. The final article explores the role ceramics played in the tribute system in China during the Song dynasty. Comprising 294 full colour plates, this book is of utmost importance, as it encourages an interest in the ceramic art of China and Southeast Asia, as well as shedding light on the significance of the celadon type of ware.
