Minor scattered foxing. Edward Worsley (1604/5â"1676), Jesuit. Born in Lancashire, he is ' is said to have been an Oxford student and a protestant minister,' (perhaps accounting for the inscription on the t.p. of this vol), although in fact 'his name does not occur in the records of that university' (ODNB). He entered the Society of Jesus in 1626 and studied at Liege, where he became first professor of logic, metaphysics, scripture, and theology, and later rector. 'In 1662 he was acting as English procurator and missioner at the Jesuit professed house, Antwerp' (ODNB), and he published a number of controversial works with Michael Cnobbaert of Antwerp, several of them directed against Stillingfleet, including this 1674 two-part work, 'in the second volume of which the author maintains the miraculous translation of the house of Loreto' (ODNB). ~Robust packaging.
