Denis Worrall was a senior parliamentarian for the National… Party, later serving as ambassador to Australia and the United Kingdom. He then left the Nationalists and ultimately shared in the establishment of the Democratic Party. He held academic posts at various universities, and edited this book, considered the first general textbook on South African government and politics. "Most works of a political nature which have South Africa as their subject focus on race relations or are limited to describing a particular period in South African politics. South Africa: Government and Politics is an exception. It is the first comprehensive treatment of all aspects of government and politics in this country.".
