After years of patient part-time toil, he published A Bibliography of the Works of Sir Winston Churchill, the standard bibliography. All his life Woods was fascinated by Winston Churchill and when he was 61, he received a doctorate from Keele University for a thesis on Churchill as author, although Woods held no other degree. This brought him international acclaim. Sir Winston Leonard Spencer Churchill (30 November 1874 24 January 1965) was a British statesman, military officer, and writer who was Prime Minister of the United Kingdom from 1940 to 1945 (during the Second World War) and again from 1951 to 1955.
