Paperback. Condición: New. Print on Demand. This book provides a fascinating glimpse into the complex relationship between humanism and scholasticism in late medieval Germany. Set against the backdrop of the University of Heidelberg in the late 15th century, the book examines the tensions and debates between these two intellectual movements through the lens of a satirical comedy play. The play, written by the humanist scholar Jacob Wimpheling, follows the misadventures of Stylpho, a bumbling and pretentious scholar who seeks to advance his career through connections and bribery. Along the way, Stylpho encounters a cast of characters, both fictional and historical, who represent the different factions within the university community. Through Stylpho's satirical portrayal, Wimpheling critiques the abuses and excesses of both humanism and scholasticism, while also highlighting the importance of education and intellectual rigor. The book offers valuable insights into the intellectual and cultural landscape of late medieval Germany, shedding light on the complex and often contentious relationship between humanism and scholasticism.
