Hardcover. Condición: new. Hardcover. This retrospective catalogue presents the first comprehensive resource on Syd Carpenter (b. 1953), a nationally recognized Philadelphia-based ceramic artistSyd Carpenter (b. 1953) is a nationally recognized, Philadelphia-based ceramic artist whose work gives sculptural form to African Americ…an farming and gardening traditions. Drawing inspiration from farms, gardens, and the tools and landscapes that sustain them, she transforms clay into abstracted, biomorphic structures that evoke both the natural world and the histories of the people who have shaped it. Carpenter's art honors the resilience of African American agricultural communities while also advancing the expressive possibilities of ceramics, situating her practice at the intersection of craft, cultural memory, and environmental consciousness. This retrospective catalogue, accompanying the first major survey of Carpenter's career, presents the full scope of her achievement. Featuring more than one hundred color reproductions of ceramic sculptures as well as garden projects, it documents the evolution of her visual language over four decades. Essays by leading scholars explore Carpenter's engagement with African American material culture, the legacies of land stewardship, and the broader histories of contemporary craft and sculpture, including Carpenter's mutually supportive relationships within a network of Black and women artists. The volume provides the first comprehensive resource on Carpenter's art, establishing her significance as a major voice in American ceramics and illuminating the enduring cultural resonances of her vision. Retrospective catalogue highlighting a Philadelphia ceramic artist who transforms clay into organic, biomorphic structures inspired by African American farming traditions and resilient landscapes. Spanning four decades, the work is illustrated through vivid images and essays that explore cultural memory and environmental insight. Shipping may be from multiple locations in the US or from the UK, depending on stock availability.

Hardcover. Condición: New. To celebrate the Neue Galerie's twentieth-anniversary year, an exhibition will be presented of selections from the collection of its co-founder. The accompanying book continues with the theme of the tenth anniversary exhibition. Whereas the earlier show and publication focused on pieces from the third…century BC to the twentieth century AD from Austria, France, and Germany, this exhibition and book will represent various centuries and media, highlighting Greek and Roman works, and Italian thirteenth- and fourteenth-century gold-ground paintings. Essays by distinguished art historians and curators will reflect on the breadth of these special fields, providing a background for various works, and their incorporation into the collection of the Neue Galerie's co-founder.

Añadir al carritoSoftcover. Condición: As New. Color-illustrated celery wraps. 32 pp. with 24 color illus. and numerous bw photos and illus. Making a Big Impressionism marks the first major exhibition of the work of Raymond Theel (1891?1952). A relatively obscure artist, Theel painted large-scale, impressionistic landscapes of his hometown in Ja…rrettown, Pennsylvania, and the surrounding area. Tragically, a fire in 1943 destroyed most of his work. Woodmere?s exhibition is a rare opportunity to see the artist?s surviving paintings. Expressive experiments with color, line, and perspective characterize his large depictions of wooded areas. This catalogue is the first publication to present and analyze Theel?s accomplishments. In addition to a detailed artist chronology, the catalogue will reproduce a majority of the known paintings by this enigmatic artist. From the exhibition of July to November 2015.
